Device payment buyout

Bought a phone through a Verizon store around 2020 or 2021 so around 3 years ago. The phone was bought outright and not part of a payment plan. The phone user switched to a different carrier and I received a bill for device payment buyout charge (24 - 36) of $252.72. I don't understand what this charge is and why it's billed to my account. I've been a Verizon customer for a long time and expect a prompt resolution to this issue otherwise I'll have to look for another carrier.

If you paid for the phone in full when you first purchased it, I'm guessing there's some kind of mess-up where the phone was also signed up for some kind of device deal requiring you to stay for 36 months.

Shouldn't have been anything like that. The longest I've ever had to sign up for anything under Verizon was 2 years.  It wasn't the primary number on the account. I do remember needing a manager's approval to pay for the phone outright the day it was purchased rather than get on a payment plan and have to wait for a phone to ship to my home.

S947, I can say if the positions were reversed, I'd want to see what was up with that purchase as well. It's something we can help look at together. As part of that, sending a Private Message so we can get some more details.
