Payment made on 1/31/24. A second payment was drafted on 2/3/24 causing my account to be overdrawn. Why would another payment be drafted days later

This happened to me as well. Verizon said that it would apply to my next bill. I said no, I needed a credit. Verizon said that it would take 6 months to re-credit. I tried to contest it with my bank as a fraudulent charge and Verizon told the bank it was due and the bank would not treat it as a fraud. I went off auto pay needless to say. Now Verizon won't take my card when I try to pay. I get an error message "Pie Server Down." Anyone else figure out a fix for this? Doesn't help that there are no live customer service folks.
