In the process of moving to Montana, I opened a Verizon Wireless account in Montana in 2021 with a different residence zip code than my billing zip code. Two months after I moved to Montana in 2021, I switched my billing zip code to Montana, I updated my new Verizon Wireless online account so that my residence and my billing address were the same zip code. Since 2021, I have been charged fees, surcharges and taxes for the state of Washington, Snohomish County and the city of Brier, Washington instead of Montana. I have called every month when I receive my bill and the Customer Service Reps tell me that they will refund my money, that they will open a ticket and find a resolution to the issue, etc. It has been almost three years. I am being dinged ~$10.00 - $15,00 every month for Washington state, Snohomish County and the City of Brier fees, surcharges and taxes. There has been no resolution!!! These conversations are on a recorded line.
Tonight, I tried 'Chat' so that it was written down and the CSR suggested that I go to a website, "A Tax Exempt email" "wfmNatTaxExempt@VerizonWireless". This is not a "tax exempt" situation. I have been promised time and time again that the CSR would open a ticket to the tech support to fix this and I would be reimbursed and it is still broken. Montana does not charge the same fees, surcharges and taxes as the state of Washington, Snohomish County and the City of Brier. I am out at a minimum $400 dollars on these charges since 2021, plus the fact that VZW is not paying Montana state the taxes they need to be paid and Washington state is getting money when I DON'T LIVE THERE ANY LONGER AND I HAVEN'T LIVED THERE SINCE 2021!!! This is ridiculous. I am going to send a complaint to whomever will hear it in the Montana Department of Revenue in Helena, Montana. VZW needs to take care of this issue and they need to reimburse me for all of the money that I have paid when it wasn't due!!!!
Wake up Verizon Wireless. I have tried and tried. I have called and called and called. Check your phone records that are on a recorded line!
Tonight, I contacted VZW through Chat. It is written down and the CSR told me to go to a website, "wfmNatTaxExempt@VerizonWireless". This is not a "tax exempt" situation! Verizon Wireless needs to correct this issue after almost three years of me calling to alert them to the fact that fees, surcharges and taxes are not being paid correctly!!! I need to be reimbursed and my account needs to be corrected once and for all. I am ready to close my account and move on, but not until I get my money back!
Thank you. Julie

It is certainly imperative that you're being billed correctly, Julie_Lynn. I know I would want to make sure I was being billed correctly, especially after moving to a different state. We want to help take a look into this, and I would agree that this is not a tax-exempt issue. Please be on the lookout for a private message from us, since we will need account access to help.

It would be good if someone at Verizon Wireless would take some action. I wrote to the FCC about this issue. I have spent hours and hours on the phone with CSRs at VZW without any changes to my account. I am owed $100s of dollars for over payment and they don't seem to care. VZW does not seem to care that taxes are being paid to Washington state when my account is here in Montana and has been the entire time since its inception. It's crazy, but true. Montana state has not received monies for taxes and they need to be paid. We'll see what comes of it.

I literally just had the same issue and it’s been a year of back and forth with Verizon and was provided misleading information, they do not care and it’s sad they’re employees that should be well versed in their jobs description aren’t! I was escalated to the supervisor that scolded me when I was fed up with the situation saying that it’s based off my area code (which does not make sense) yet another of misleading piece of information.. you need to change your BILLING AND SERVICE ADDRESS to the correct location. Apparently there is two addresses.. only took a year to find out and this piece of information was NOT provided by Verizon representative

I too have a very similar issue except it has been going on for 9 years and I just noticed this tax from a state where I previously lived. I have considered contacting the FCC and will if I cannot get this issue settled with Verizon. The address where we currently live is correct for both phones and we have bought new phones three times since living in our current state of AZ. I have talked to Verizon most recently in the last 2 days and was told a supervisor would contact me. Never happened.

I know I would be concerned if I was being billed for fees, surcharges, and taxes for the wrong location as well, kiki2018. I would be happy to take a look into this for you, and I will need account access to assist. Please be on the lookout for a private message from us to get started.

What was the resolution to this problem? I have also been incorrectly charged for incorrect taxes for years and when I have notified of the issue, it is still reoccurring to this day.

It's certainly important that you're being billed correctly, vizand03. I know that we all move from time to time, and this typically happens when the service address isn't updated correctly. Let's dive in and take a look at this. Please be on the lookout for a private message from us.

I had the exact same problem - months of speaking with multiple representatives, at least 3!, and never was anyone ever able to fix this. One representative even told me to call my current state Department of Revenue as if they would be able to figure out why Verizon's backend billing practices are messed up. It wasn't until I googled "verizon charging wrong state tax" while ON THE PHONE WITH THE REP, that this community note came up and OTHER CUSTOMERS solved the problem. The rep had no idea. Not a single rep knew or said anything about this any of the times I called. When I told the rep I was on the phone with, I was directed to the app to fix it and the directions I got on how to fix it didn't even work, so I had to go to the website on my laptop. Years of improper billing and hundreds of dollars, not to mention the very frustrating hours I've wasted on this. (Although they did "helpfully" refund me the overcharge from the last bill, thanks for the 6 bucks, but not before blaming me for not knowing that service address existed and was different from billing address).
I'm adding to this thread so that when someone googles "verizon charging wrong state tax" or "verizon billing wrong state taxes" or "verizon charging for taxes wrong state" or "why is verizon billing me for a taxes in a state I don't live in", this thread will come up and help them. It's clear the reps can't or won't. This is a Verizon systems and training issue.
