Purchased a “free” new phone as part of upgrade promotion in Verizon store. Several times, if not literally more, I asked employee if there would be additional chargers to the account after initial fees. Employee guaranteed me no, it’s a promotion for a free phone, no extra fees.
Didn’t realize the monthly bill included charges to purchase the phone in installments for two months.
Verizon says it’s too late for them to help, the store has to find promotion.
Store says employee no longer working there. Manager does find promotion and says he’ll add it to my account and I’ll get credit for two months paid.
Over a month later, still being charged for phone in installments, no credit given.
I’ll be out $800 because of the store’s incompetence or actual lie(s) and Verizon cannot or will not help.

Hey there, SeanOD87, we want to help make sure you receive any promotion you qualify for with your purchase! Can you let us know what model phone you had purchased? On what date did you upgrade your phone? You mentioned you were expecting the phone to be free. Was this related to a trade-in offer?

It was an iPhone 15 128 GB Pink, purchased on June 15, 2024.
There was a promotion listed by Verizon for a free phone at the time because the previous phone had been purchased years prior, without an upgrade. The salesperson was adamant that the old phone did not need to be exchanged or traded it. I asked repeatedly. The so-called manager of the store reiterated that the old phone did not need to returned and that the promotion was as I understood it when the store was called last month.

The promotion wasn't put onto your account. It's either that the salesperson who doesn't work for the company anymore messed up, or the service plan you have doesn't qualify for the free phone promo. Usually you have to be on Unlimited Ultimate to qualify for these deals. If everything is done correctly, the phone is free only if you stay on Verizon for 36 months, because you are getting monthly credits over that period to "pay you back" for the phone until the entire cost is covered.
I'm not a Verizon employee, just another customer trying to help.

Verizon has deceptive business practices. You don't get free phone on them they give a small credit over a 24 month period. I traded in my factory unlocked phone and got a phone with features that were disabled. Still owe 50% on a junk phone. Once this phone is paid off I'll be buying another factory unlocked phone and switch services to a honest provider

I’m in a similar predicament and it seems as though this is one of the most common issues among Verizon customers, if not THE most common. It’s honestly very discouraging and upsetting how often I feel taken advantage of by this company and I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling this way. Nobody ever seems to have the same answers to any given issue, constantly varying between the authorized dealers (victra), Verizon, and even down to the customer service representatives working for Verizon…it’s a constant run around until they run us out of time and get to collect hundreds of dollars at a time from regular people, by default. NO consistency, NO compassion. Just greed.
