Got an s23 ultra. A month later I turned in my old s23 ultra and was promised $850. Went to upgrade this year was told I had to pay remaining $900 left on this one. I said fine take off the $850 I'm owed and I'll pay the difference. Said can't do that because of the "contract" over and over. Literally could not explain it me aside from just saying that's how it is over and over. Not 1 but 4 different agents online and in store. I said fine I'll pay the 900. Then was told if I do that I completely lose the $850. Once again just because of the "contract". In order to upgrade it would cost $1750 and would still have to pay for new phone on top of that. Another $1400. That would be $3150 for a $1400 phone. All the while they keep the other 2 phones. They just keep your phones never actually pay you anything for them. But let me keep the phone and not pay them and they will prosecute me. If you all don't have an arbitration lawyer get one. It's the only way to get your money back from these thieves. Best part is when I signed up for Verizon I specifically told them these were the exact reasons I left and sued att and was repeatedly promised nothing like this would happen. They are even worse then them.

Adamshell, we would be glad to investigate your concerns further. We know it is important to receive accurate information. It is correct that trade promotions apply over the course of an active device payment plan. In order to receive the full value of a trade promotion, the device payment would need to continue. We would be glad to review any additional concerns that you may have here. Please let us know if we can assist further.

Then explain why I can't get my whole trade in amount at once? Without saying it's the contract.

Man so sorry you are going through that. I had an offer and received $800 credit. My question is, what condition was your phone in? I ask because it does depend on if there are scratches, cracked screen, water damage etc. If your phone was in great condition, I really hope the issue gets fixed.

Had a scratch on back. Not worried about the amount total. Just why can't they give me the whole trade in amount at once?

Hello, Adamshell. Help is here. Congrats on the new phone. Just to clarify, if you traded-in one phone for a trade-in promo discount for the new phone, the new phone is put on a Device Payment plan over the course of 36 months. You receive a monthly credit for the promo amount of the course of the payment plan.

It's not new. I turned in the second phone after I got this one. And that response right there is exactly what's making me mad. Let me highlight once again I have you all a fully paid off s23 ultra weeks after I got this one not part of original "contract". But even if it is on a payment plan went can't you all give me the whole amount at once for it? It's the same amount of money either way. And also why if I pay off this one do I lose the money for the one I turned in? Give me the 850 at once I pay the difference that's left and I can upgrade. I shouldn't be punished for paying off a device early. Your just trying to charge me twice for a phone.

Quit sending links to useless info pages. Quit trying to PM me. On this public forum explain why you won't give me the whole trade in amount at once. Also why do I lose the trade in money if I pay off this one?

Hello, Adamshell, we want to ensure that you have a clear understanding of how the trade-in program works. When reviewing the details of our trade-in offers, it does show that the promo credit is applied over 36 months as opposed to a lump sum credit. You can verify by clicking the Details link under Available Offers for any one of our devices that has a promotional offer. With regard to payoff, you will lose the remaining credits if the payment agreement is paid early as we will no longer have a device payment agreement to apply those credits towards. In addition, if you are purchasing a new phone you will be starting a new agreement with a new device and there can only be one agreement and promotion per phone number at a time. For additional details, click here: https://www.verizon.com/support/device-payment-faqs/#monthly. Please let us know if this helps answer your question.

That is my point exactly. So here's the numbers. If I pay the $900 left on this phone I lose $850 from the one I turned in. That's $1750 then when I upgrade I still get charged for another phone. Then you take this device and split it up into miniscule payments and the prices just repeats o over and over. How's it fair to charge somebody twice for the same device and get punished if I pay it off early?

Adamshell, if you decide that you would like to purchase another phone early, you would only pay the amount remaining on your payment agreement. If it is $900, then that is the only amount you would be charged. You will not lose out on any credits that have already been applied for your device promotion. However, you will be losing out on future credits as you will be terminating the device payment agreement early. To get the full amount, you will want to keep the agreement active for the full 36 months as shown in the promotion eligibility requirements.

Let's try this again. If I was promised $850 and only owe $900. less than that now since I just paid my bill. Take the 850 off and I owe 50 right? I never traded in for this phone. I got this phone first. 3 weeks later I turned in an identical 23 ultra. So once again the 850 applied to 900 equals me only owing 50 on this phone. Pretty simple math. So tell me again how I have to pay 900? Don't send me useless links.

I don't work for Verizon, but I hang out here a lot.
It's in the fine print of the contract that the trade-in value (in your case $850) gets paid out over 36 months, so they won't pay you $850 lump sum. The time you have been on the contract you should have been getting a credit to your monthly bill, so some of the $850 has already been paid out to you. Leaving the contract early means Verizon doesn't pay you any more credits, so then you'd be getting burned because you wouldn't get the rest of the trade-in money; you would only have gotten whatever was paid out to you in the earlier monthly bill credits. From your earlier posts, I am guessing there was also verbiage in the contract which says early termination on your part will also require you to pay the remaining cost of your current phone - that's where the $900 they are talking about comes in.
Discounts, promos, etc. aren't "stackable", so you can't add on some secondary deal ("free [device]", "upgrade to latest flagship model device every year", whatever) to the contract you have now - you have to pick your current agreement or else renege on your current contract and enter into some other agreement/contract.
While I understand that's not what you want to hear, it is what it is. And the other guys have similar policies.
If the issue is that you HAVEN'T been seeing a monthly credit on your bill which would add up to $850 over 36 months, then that's another problem altogether.

Same thing happened to me. I haven't had a contract in YEARS. I traded in my phone last year for the S23 Ultra, and I was never told that I would not be able to pay off the balance immediately. I only had $400 remaining after the "credit" and other discounts, but I was forced into a 36 month "contract" after the trade-in. After all of the carriers got rid of standard contracts years ago, this is the new method of locking in customers with a contract. And it's stupid because I've been a customer for 15 years, so obviously I'm not going anywhere. Silly me for trading in at all. I disputed this afterwards, but I never received a response. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to follow up, but I think I'll take time off work to do that tomorrow! Hopefully this will be resolved for you successfully!

Unfortunately, contracts haven't gone away from what I've read in these forums and elsewhere...they just morphed them into deals tied in with devices where you have to stick around for X number of months or else you have to pay upfront for whatever you still owe on the device(s) minus credits for time you spent on the arrangement. It's still a contract no matter what it's named.
