Misdelivered Package

I received a package for a long-gone (but not forgotten  tenant).  I didn't initially realize the package wasn't for me, but when I opened it I found that it had new phones in it.  I then noted that the package was sent with signature required, but no signature was provided.

How can this be handled.  Also of note:  The tenant left me with unpaid utility bills and other expenses, I'd be interested in appropriate compensation (one of the 3 iphones included would be a nice gesture).  Is this possible?

Also - what are the next steps to return the remaining phones?

Thanks!

I once received a random package of cat food from Amazon, and I don’t own a cat. Getting some phones, you didn’t order is a step up 🙂 I’m sorry that tenant caused some problems for you. In regards to returning the phones, I’d recommend returning them to the shipper. That way they can send the devices back to us directly. Most of our shipments use FedEx, and they outline what to do with a package that’s not yours here: https://www.fedex.com/en-ca/contact-us/faq/claims-and-issues/package-not-mine.html

You can use their support, to inform them of receiving that package that isn’t yours. If FedEx was not the shipping carrier, then I’d recommend looking up the company’s support page that made the delivery.  -John

I'd contact the shipper and tell them the package was sent to the incorrect location so they can return it to the sender.  As for using one of the phones yourself, wouldn't recommend that because the other person will eventually realize they didn't get their package.  Then the phone, if it's being used, will be blacklisted as lost/stolen and will stop working with no way to get it un-bricked.  Never mind that if you aren't a Verizon customer, the phone is a Verizon phone and will only work on Verizon for a set period of time until the device unlocking policy requirements have been met.

There are a number of device offers currently available on the website, as all large carriers regularly have a "free phone" deal of some sort going at all times.

As for the ex-tenant saddling you with extra bills, that's something you'd have to take up with them elsewhere.
