Restricting Bank Account on Auto Pay

Verizon has restricted my bank account on Auto Pay after being a consistent customer for over 25 years. Since before the year 2000 when the company was called Bell Atlantic Mobile. It will allow me to add a credit or debit card, but conveniently I am unable to continue to get the discount without using a bank account. I received an email from Verizon stating I had removed Auto Pay from my account, which I never did. Interestingly enough, I log in to try to resign up for it, and my bank account is restricted. For no reason. In fact my latest auto payment just cleared my bank on June 27th for $182.

I have been given excuse to excuse from four or five different Verizon reps in chat, on the phone and on X and Facebook. None are correct, nor do they investigate for me. They just give me a blanket response that Verizon would never turn off my Auto Pay. You did. It's indisputable.

And this more than 25 year consistent customer is being pushed out. All that matters to your company is new accounts. A terrible way to do business. Thanks much Verizon.

pmdevito, we want to help with your automatic payment discount and help you figure out what caused it to be removed in the first place. 25 years is a long time and we really appreciate your loyalty. We're definitely making sure you get the help you need. Please be on the lookout for a Private Message.

We also have this link on how to set up automatic payments to get the discount here: https://www.verizon.com/support/auto-pay-faqs/

You know that your link literally helps no one! No one at version is helpful!

They are doing the same exact thing to me. They refuse to fix it and canโ€™t tell me a timeline of when itโ€™ll be fixed. Iโ€™m switching carriers because of this.

They restricted my account for return payments, I always have minimum $500 on my account bank policy for maintenance. They refused to remove the restriction and make me pay with no automatic discount. People need to know how Verizon abused their customers.

I had the same issue.  My autopsy suddenly disappeared,  was unable to sign up on my own with my chase bank card, OR my chase bank account.  Spent hours getting it sorted it, finally I spoke to a supervisor who fixed it,  but I never got my credits for the missing months of discount.   Verizon is doing this intentionally.

I am having the exact same problem TODAY. I have spent hours on phone and chat windows with Verizon.  I have never missed a payment and have always used AutoPay.  They told me that there was a reversal of payment - but when I called my bank  there was no record of a payment attempt

Is your autopay date today or maybe yesterday?  Because I noticed some weird glitch with My Verizon not allowing me to login very early this morning; it was going into some endless loop and another user was having the same problem when I posted about it elsewhere.  The login problem is fixed now, but if the system was glitching out, it might have messed up your autopay where it didn't go through and then triggered the dreaded you-can't-use-autopay-because-you-missed-a-payment thing.

If it is due to whatever IT issue was happening earlier, sure hope someone can override the 6-month block on using autopay for you.

Iโ€™ve had a similar problem twice now with my payments not posting. Very long time Verizon customer. Never had issue up until two months ago.  Never missed a  payment either. Chat service just gives canned answers. So sick of stating my case to no one who listens or fixes for that matter. Even had my bank contact them, they got same run around. Guess itโ€™s time  for a new carrier.

Hello, Cameronie. Help is here. Please share more details. Are you receiving an error message when you attempt to set up your auto pay? Are there any current restrictions on your account? What happens when you attempt to set it up?

Same thing happened to me but I didnโ€™t have funds so there were returned payments two or three times now my job is steady and I have funds so I tried to set up autopay but it errors out saying I canโ€™t use that method of payment and to choose a different one so I called customer service and after a long phone call they said my bank was blocking it so I scheduled a callback and called my bank after only a few minutes the bank tells me they donโ€™t even do that they have no way of blocking just one merchant without a fraud report from me which I didnโ€™t do and they said there is none so I waited patiently for the Verizon call back phone rings I answer I get menu options that by the time I finish connecting the rep had already hung up. So tired of having Verizon block my bank then gaslight me into thinking itโ€™s everyone elseโ€™s fault.

Use VERIZON Visa Card for auto pay, no issue.

Everyone who has signed up for this card can toot their horn about it until they are blue in the face but the fact remains that many of us do not want to sign up for another credit or debit card. Rather, Verizon needs to figure out the Autopay nonsense with our *existing* bank accounts that have sufficient funds and are the correct routing/acct numbers. Getting the runaround month after month is exhausting.

After years of autopay, we all of the sudden get this message today:

Verizon Msg: We couldn't process your payment on 11/01/2024. To make an alternate payment, visit m.vzw.com/paymybill or dial #PMT.

On Verizon chat, the rep i spoke with suggested we call our bank. No issues at the bank.

is this part of the marketing plan to get customers to sign up for a Verizon credit card?

Please fix this, Verizon, so we can keep paying as we have for YEARS!

We're sorry to read about the issue with your Auto Pay. Were any changes made to the payment information? ~Peter

Wao, unbelievable. In my case they withdrew the money the next day after the auto pay day. Then Verizon hold the money for 10 days (not business day) and then return the money to my bank. Capital one even sent me a couple of alerts saying that a payment has been debited from your account. Clearly this is a tactic to charge a $25 fee. If they do this to at least 100 people in 50 states you only have to do 2 persons that is 2500$. If they do X1000 is 25K and is only 25 per state per month they can easily leverage some extra money. I was t-mobile and I conned myself switching to this people. I payed $25 a line with T-mobile. In HELLRIZON IS 65$ with 6 lines. Where is the discount that I was quoted at the store $25 up. Unbelievable the FTC allow this Mafia to play wild west!
