Has anyone else been swindled out of their device? They acknowledge receipt of the device and tell me it went missing.

You are definitely not the only one. Sadly, this seems like a fairly common occurrence based upon how many threads I've seen about trade-ins being lost and credits not being applied/revoked due to this problem. You'll have to wrangle with Verizon and possibly UPS to get reimbursed and maybe file a complaint with an outside agency...
Verizon really needs to fix their device unlocking policy IMO because I believe it is a root cause of phones "disappearing". There are plenty of other threads from people overseas who have somehow ended up with a Verizon phone.
I'm not a Verizon employee, just another customer trying to help.
