Bring your own phone and get up to $540 with new line - changing phone numbers?

I have a question about the "bring your own phone" with new line offers I'm seeing - I've seen one for up to $540 off over 36 months with a new line, and another for a free Unlimited Welcome line when you BYOD.

If I activate a new line with a new phone number to start the promotion, can I later change that number and still keep my 36 months of promotional credits? Can I later port a number from another carrier to replace that new number?

rambo8820, we want to make sure we're answering all of your questions regarding the port-in process. It is possible to port a number and have it replace an existing number. You would do so by going to the Change Mobile Number page here: https://m.vzw.com/m/pFmNsZr Doing this wouldn't interfere with any existing promotions on the line you're doing the number change on, however, some port-in promotions do require a new line instead of replacing another line already on your account. Great question, rambo8820. If you go with this new phone number and promotion you can change the phone number, but porting a new line over and disconnecting the original line would void the promotion; we wouldn't be able to move the promo to a ported line because it would disqualify from the promo. I hope that helps clarify!

From what I've read in the forums, if you are under contract, you can't make any changes at all to the arrangement. Any alterations at all - getting a number change, porting some other number on top of the line, swapping out the device involved, disconnecting service or porting the number out, even changing the service plan associated with the deal will break the contract and cause you to lose any promotional credits. Plus, you could be hit with early termination penalty fees and have to pay off the entire balance on any devices associated with the contract by the next billing cycle.

You also can't stack offers or discounts, so I'd choose whichever offer of the 2 you mentioned works better for you because even if there are multiple lines you're bringing in, I wouldn't be surprised if you can't get different deals with separate lines, unless you keep all the lines separate and not in a group account and have different people owning the individual accounts.
