I just got an email containing a letter from Verizon's CEO.

In it, the following two claims are made:

  • We’re creating an experience to deliver something better: support that’s faster, easier, smarter.
  • A new next-gen AI assistant for instant, accurate answers.

It's well known and entirely obvious that generative AI "assistants" do not provide faster, easier, and smarter customer service. They make constant mistakes, frequently get information wrong, often do not understand fairly basic requests, and overall communicate to customers that our time is not valuable to you. It is a huge mark of disrespect and is indisputably user hostile.

So please confirm, which statement is true? Are you creating faster, easier, and smarter support, or are you leveraging AI for support? You cannot do both.
