Phone number forwarding to a different number

I  am a counselor and my client's phone  is being forwarded to another number  which is her children's father's phone number.  She states she does not know how this is happening and does not know how to fix it.   Her phone is a Verizon number, his is an AT&T number. 

I cannot reach her due to this problem.  Can Verizon reach out to her to help her fix this without changing her phone number?

To turn off Call Forwarding from your mobile phone, call *73. You should hear a confirmation tone or message that may sound like a busy signal to let you know Call Forwarding has been turned off.
