Travelling to cancun; how is the coverage there?

My daughter and her husband are travelling to Cancun next week. I want them to have access to place calls if there is an emergency while they are there. Can anyone tell me of their experience using their cell phones in Cancun? How is the coverage? Can you get a good signal?

I will say generally speaking that these resort/tourist towns do typically have good coverage which decreases as you get off the beaten path...
