How can I block phone calls from a specific number?

Hi all,

I've been receiving two or three phone calls a day (some at 3 in the morning!) from what seems to be a recording of a man talking. I'd love to simply block the number from being to call us. Is there any way to do that?

Please note, I've tried calling the number but it goes to a recording there, too.

Hey stanenba, turn on the receiver and listen for dial tone press *60 then follow the instructions for the Call Block options. The phone number(s) you enter on your Call Block list wil be repeated to you.

Dialing *60 does not do anything (I just get a busy tone). Any other ideas?

Hey stanenba, in some areas you must dial 3 to turn on/off Call block after dailing either *60 or *80.

Thank you, but after I dial either *60 or *80 it just rings busy. I tried dialing 3 as well, but all I hear is a busy signal.

Isn't there someone I can call/click to to block the number?

I keep getting calls every day and it's very frustrating.

I was told by a Verizon customer service. that in order for me to block unwanted calls. I had to log in and do it myself thru this site. However, I can't find where to go. and I am getting calls every 5-10 mins and as early as 6am.. it seems from weird #s not 10 digits #s but 5 or 12 digits #s who are trying to fax to my home.

can you tell me where to go or what to do.

I'm with you. I can't do any of this either. I've been trying for an hour on Verizon's website and I don't see how to block a call. Nothing's working.

OK - I just found it. Verizon does not offer this service in Massachusetts. That explains it! (But why don't they?)

Some switches/central offices don't have the ability for the feature to be programmed (esp. in the North East area (NY, MA, RI, CT). There could be more. It's a feature seen on mostly former GTE areas (California, Texas, Florida) & former Bell Atlantic areas (VA, MD, DC, DE, NJ, PA).

I think it's crap that we have to sign up for FiOS Digital Voice (I will *NEVER* trust VoIP), and I don't want to have to dial 10 digits to call down the street, LOL.

I pay for good service. I expect this company to have the means or at least have an answer to blocking calls that occur continuosly all day long every 15 minutes. it rings 2 times then quits. No one on the other line. One is an 888# the other a 718 number. It stops at night. We have already disconnected our landline from the wall for 2 days and it still happens. I`m pretty sure it is an automated #. I will give this problem 1 week more. It has already been 5 days. If it does not quit, I will be forced to cancel my home landline and just use my cell (verizon). I will also seek less expensive provider for my cell. Any feedback will be considered.

I'm trying to block a number from calling my house phone but when I dial *60 it's saying I have to call customer care for help

Call Intercept can be a useful feature for this problem. I don't know about the rest of the country but here in PA it comes with a feature called "blocked numbers list". Using this list, which is a component of the Call Intercept feature, you can add anywhere from 1 to 25 telephone numbers of any kind (even toll-free numbers) to your blocked numbers list and then they cannot reach you. While *60 can be useful it is not available in all areas and in many cases it only blocks numbers in your local calling area.

I've had this problem with unwanted calls for a LONG time, and there isn't any good solution for it. Whenever you talk to different people from Verizon, you get different answers.

Kayci told me I should register for the 'do not call list' but I already did, to no avail.

Chloe from billing told me that even though I had FiOS TV and Internet, I was still on a copper phone line (not what I was told would be the case when I signed up). So I had to pay $8/mo to get 'Call Intercept' to block numbers--the catch is that I was limited in the numbers I could block. A calling feature that should be free; Verizon manages to overcharge for it while making it less functional by adding a low limit.

Some tech support guy said I would have to switch to digital voice, and who knows what that would do to my current bundle, and I'd have to dial my area code all the time, no thanks.

Why can't Verizon just give it's customers the ability to block numbers as they chose as part of their normal call plan???

I can see if they want to charge me if I wanted to block like 20 numbers, but there are just one or two that won't stop, and I'm not paying extra for that, I'll switch carriers first!

Whew! Went throught the ringer with multiple calls to get answers to block numbers from calling my phone as well.

Bottom line: Do you have call intercept? If you do you can manually block up to 25 numbers by calling 800-327-7070. When prompted (if you have never set this feature up before) enter the last 4 digits of your home phone as a temporary pin #. then it will prompt you for a permenant pin # which you can change in the future as well if desired. After that - follow prompts. Blocked numbers will automatically be rejected and you'll never know they called.

If yo udo not have call intercept, for $5.00 per month you can add call block and use that feature. Otherwise, you should be able to report the number to Verizon as phone harrassment or to your local police for instructions. It used to be that the phone company would suspend or completely cut off customers who harrassed others by phone.

Why would Verizon do away with something this important? I live in Maryland and going though a divorce and there is no way to keep my soon to be ex and his mother from calling me. Sure I don't have to pick up the phone, but is it really fair for us not to have this service simply because we moved.I don't want to have to change my number

Do you have FiOS Digital Voice? You can activate Incoming Call Block via your FDV Account Manager to block up to 10 phone numbers. You can also use Anonymous Call Rejection for calls from people who have blocked their Caller ID. There is no charge for these features. Go to verizon.com/fiosvoice, log in with your My Verizon user name and passcode, and choose Calling Features to enable either or both features. If you're not FiOS Digital Voice, those features may be available for a charge depending on where you live.

Ok, blocking 10 numbers.. Sorry, thats just not enough. Im on a list somewhere and as a result get sales calls from about 20 different numbers. I love the call blocking My Verizon, but 10 numbers is not nearly enough. Is there any way to block more?

I have Fios Digital Voice and have listed four numbers in the block incoming calls feature. All four numbers still get through. Does the service actually work?

Yes it does, but with exceptions. Calls made to you from outside your local calling area, through operator assistance, or from cell phones and some business phones cannot be blocked.

I agree, not having this basic service in Maryland is enough justification for me to switch from Verizon FIOS when my contract expires this June to another provider like COMCAST....Call blocking and Anonymous Rejection are both basic services with Infinity (Comcast) in the state of Maryland. I guess what Comcast states in their commercials is actually true regarding their value over Verizon. The other false impression Verizon portrays in their commercials is that somehow the quality of the television picture is better with FIOS, than standard cable. No difference in picture whatsoever on my 73" 1080P BIG SCREEN monitor between my original COX TV (same setup as COMCAST) and FIOS. If Verizon really wants to stay viable in ALL states, they need to offer the same services in ALL states. I had the Calling Block feature when in VA, but have been very disappointed with Verizon since I moved to MD...DO NOT BE MISLED INTO BELIEVING FIOS IS SOMEHOW BETTER, the last time I checked the line coming into my house from the Verizon setup outside is a COAX, and not Fiber Optic.

Why even bother with Verizon. You can pay them $4.00 a month to block calls, but they must be from your local area or your region. In addition, they can't block calls from a busines and other organization. The calls I get constantly day and night are from neither my area, nor my region. They are business, and scam people trying to sell something, and use 800, 888, numbers, all the rest are of the calls are from out of state. So, why would I pay Verizon an extra $4.00 a month for something that is useless to me. Forget about the Do Not Call list. It's useless too. Verizon neeeds to wake up to what is needed by people who are disturbed from early morning until late at night, with unwanted calls. Personally, I work the night shift, and need to sleep in the day. Needless, to say, it's impossible with the rotation system that is being used by these callers. Sure, I could turn off the phone, but I have children and aging parents who might need to contact me in an emergency. Wait, isn't that the reason that I have, and pay for the phone?

Wake up Verizon , it's time to protect your customers, otherwise they won't be customers for much longer.

This is the 21st century and FiOS is digital. My Call Intercept with my copper line worked just fine. If you can show me that the call is Private or Unavailable you should have a program to block those even if there is no number associated with it. This is not rocket science here, just programming. What good is anonymous call block if it is limited! Don't you think the people getting around it know your weakness? I'm getting calls from people claiming they are computer techs working for Best Buy and my computer is telling them it has problems, which is a lie, as I have worked with computers for over 30 years and I can't block these PRIVATE numbers? This is the new spam and Verizon is looking really bad. I'm still in my FiOS 30 day evaluation and it looks like I will end up dropping them because I'm getting more junk calls now than ever. How hard is it to add a subroutine to check the private and unavailable labels and drop the calls. I bet Verizon would fix it if they had to pay people for every unwanted call they received.

I have digital Verizon phone service. I can go online to block calls, and I did set it up online. I set up a specific numbern(305-000-0000), as they are calling 5 times a day (political robo calls and I'm in a swing state) and then I got a call from that same number--no blocking. I also set up "block all anonymous calls", but that number came through.

When I tried *60, the recording says that I do not have that service. Why do I have the service online but not on the phone line? And why isn't this working?

If you have the older wired hookup you dial either *80 or *90 and it will prompt you through

If you have FIOS you have to do it on line and it is REALLY complicated. took me half an hour to find it.

You have to log into myverizon.com

Then navigate to manage services then to calling features then incoming call block. Turn it on and that finally gets you to screen where you can enter numbers you want blocked.

Mickey D bless you for a real answer. Online Verizon support could only offer to sell me an unlisted number. Verizons support pages must have been designed by the guys who designed Obamacare.

We have phony IRS calls coming in more than once a day. It's annoying and against the law! We need to block this number as soon as possible.

I found there is an option to do it using the "MY FiOS" app on my phone.

In the CALLS section you can tap on it to go to all theunbers that have called you.

Then tap on the number that you want to block (or unblock) and there is a button for BLOCK CALLER.

Now to see if it really works!

I'm having the same problem. Multiple calls per day from the same 800 number. Except these are coming in as faxes, so they're using up my printer ink. I've already reported the 800 number to the FCC, as junk faxing is illegal. But in case that doesn't help, I need these calls blocked somehow.

I don't have FIOS, and I can't upgrade to it. It's not available in my area. I have Freedom Essentials land line with the highest speed DSL plan. I can't find any way to add any sort of blocking to my phone package. Verizon needs to get this sorted. This thread alone has been going on for years.
