disconnecting a landline jack

I have verizon landline and internet. I want to disconnect the landline jack on my kitchen wall. My plan is to just cut the wires, wrap in electrical tape and pull the wires back into the wall. I want to make sure doing that is not going to effect the service to the phone jack elsewhere in the house

Hopefully when you open up the jack make sure there isn't a wire coming in and a wire going out. If so then you will have to splice color for color and put a blank faceplate.

If just one wire is coming into the box don't just cut it because you can short out the whole house and none of the phones will work. Wired nut or electrical tape each individual conductor. This way they won't short out. I would still recommend putting a blank faceplate as well.
