I have very little credit due to just starting to get on my feet and starting over. I need a phone but Verizon says they don't run credit then they do and its a hard inquiry like I needed that NOT.... I got all the way to payment and realized whoa I almost paid and wouldn't have gotten anything. NOT EVERYONE HAS PERFECT CREDIT OR AREBJUST STARTING OUT DO NOT JUDGE US FOR IT. I could have a million bucks and still get denied.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, but it's a general practice for businesses to run a credit check if you're applying for a loan. I'm guessing you were trying to get a free phone promotion, but the stipulation with that at any mobile carrier is you must be a customer for a number of years while the carrier is crediting your bill every month until the credits add up to the cost of the phone. The phone is like collateral, hence the credit pull.
What about obtaining an inexpensive phone as a bring your own device and signing up for a service plan only? There are a number of different price points for service between the prepaid services and postpaid services. Wishing you the best on building your credit back up. It's a long journey and takes time and effort.
I'm not a Verizon employee, just another customer trying to help.
