closed account and was sent to collection on waived fees

back in 2023 switched to verizon for better reception. but it turn out that my reception was worst than the service i dad before. technical support try to fix it at least 3 time but reception never improved so i end up closing accounts and verizon agreed to waived $178. today i went to check my credit report because i need to apply for a credit card and i found that i have a collection for the $178 from verizon i called verizon twice and they sent me to their collection agency without telling me anything. Now they said i have to dispute it and it will take at least 30 days. i don't have 30 days i need to apply for the credit card now. can you help. this should have never happened .
