Change router COAX connection to ETHERNET?

I would like to at some point in the future replace the ActionTec router that came with my verizon FIOS with my own router. The actiontec is currently connected to the optical network terminal via a COAX cable. I want to use ethernet because my router does not have a coax port. After I do this physically, I have read that I need to call verizon and have them change the connection from coax to ethernet. What exactly should I say when I make this request so that I can be clear about what I want? Thank you.

From what I've read, you need to ask them to change the provisioning to Ethernet for Internet while leaving the COAX provisioned for TV service.

Hopefully someone else can chime in and confirm or correct me if I'm mistaken.

You need to call Fios tech support and tell them you want to change the ont to router connection from coax to ethernet. They will do it for you while you wait, takes about 10 minutes.

I just did it last week and was surprised that my network speed actually went up by aboy 30% to the speed tier I have - went from approx 60/20 to 85/34 - I'm a 75/35 tier.

I'd suggest that you run your cable, after testing it, and make the connections at the ont and the router before calling them. If you logon to the router and go to the network connections page you can see the progress as they disable the broadband coax and enable the broadband ethernet. Once it is enabled and they say it's done I found I had to reboot the router before everybody could work OK.
