Extremely Slow Upload Speed

I used to get 35Mbps as my Upload Speed and recently i have been getting 0.10mbps -> 5mbps. It sometimes fixes itself in the morning and the afternoon but everytime at the night, it goes down again. I tried many speedtest including speedtest.net, Verizon's Speedtest, and they all are showing that the upload speed is around 0.10mbps -> 5mbps. Although i find something really unusual. Everytime when i put the Firewall to Maximum Security, the upload speed always goes 20mbps+ but each time when i go back to Typical security, the upload speed goes slower. Although i don't think that is the problem because sometimes, the upload speed is really high like right now when i am typing, it went from 5mbps before to 10mbps but it always seems like it is different. Here's what i mean by the Maximum Security, Typical Security, and the Minimum Security

So if anyone can help me, it would be great because i tried doing alot of things including rebooting my router, resetting it to default, changing the dns, changing the ip, resetting the ont, and now i'm even doing what i did above trying out different firewall settings and all of this isn't working as sometimes, my upload speed goes super high while sometimes, my upload speed goes very low.

Note: I'm not using wireless but wired. Also i'm not using coax but instead i am using ont ethernet.

That's a strange problem you've described.

What firewall are you using?

And have your tried a different device...another PC, Mac, etc., to see if you get the same results?

I have the same problem. Upload speed almost zero at night but it work perfectly in the morning. I have 50/20 mbps. Spent hours with the technical support, get a new router and in house checking by a technical. When he comes in the morning the upload speed is 20 Mbps but it becomes zero at night. A 4 mb excel file will take a day to upload if I tried to do it at night. Help!!! :'(

I did use another device (as i have 3 computers) and they all have the same speeds so it not just my pc but it is the network. Although apparently right now it fixed itself somehow. Currently, i made my firewall settings to Minimum Security and it seems like is ok but if i have the problem again, i'll keep this thread updated.

He was adjusting the routers firewall.

Have you tried running your issue by Verizon tech support? If they don't have a specific idea why changes your router's security settings changes your bandwidth, they may at least provide you with a replacement router to see if that fixes the problem.

I can tell you that changing my Actiontec's security settings makes no difference in up or download speeds here, and I don't remember ever seeing anyone else reporting the same specifics.

I encounterd the same issue. At first I was told that it was congestion due to too many users being on line at the same time. That seemed plausable especially on nightswhen TV was nothing but junk shows. A few more tech calls and 3 weeks of repairs to wiring outside and new components to the "box" outside and a Verizon server change the problem seems to be resolved. Keep after them until you get what you are paying for.
