Fios compatible modem

I just purchased new service for Fios TV and Internet that will be set up in a couple of weeks at my new home for when I move. We purchased it without buying or leasing a modem, with an understanding that we can bring our own and they'd install it for us so we can save a bit of money, as $200 is quite expensive for a new modem and router. I was wondering if there's any information or an official link with what's compatible or whatever. My sister got Comcast and she was able to save a bit by buying a modem from Best Buy, rather than Comcast directly, and I was assuming we could do the same thing.

After a bit of research, I"m incredibly lost. I found no info on Verizon's website, live chat didn't help at all, as they said they don't support anything but Verizon modems, my understaning is 3rd party modems are supported. Any help could be greatly appreciated on what's supported and what I should be looking for.

You're welcome. Ask Verizon for any further requirements in case you are unsure, but that should be it. Order one of those two, plug it in when Verizon says service is ready, and you should be set.

FiOS actually doesn't use modems, so that is why you're coming up blank in many of your searches.

Since you're getting FiOS TV, a FiOS/Verizon router will be required at least somewhere in the mix to complete your installation. The new Quantum Gateway (G1100) can be purchased, or you can elect to choose an older ActionTec MI424WR router (Rev. I is not a bad choice and still fairly new) to go with. eBay and Amazon will likely sell these for far less than Verizon wants.

To keep things simple, start off with a Verizon router. If the router doesn't suit your needs (Wireless coverage for example), we can go from there.

Okay, that helps a bit. Now I was looking at Verizon routers just to see the pricing and such, and I came across the AC1750, does that not work? When I was livechatting a rep, he told me that the G1100 and another modem with a bunch of letters and numbers I can't remember are the only two supported, is the AC1750 obsolete or something?

So I guess I'll have to get a Verizon router since I'm getting TV service as well?

One thing to note is the house I'm moving to is already wired for Fios service, not sure if that changes anything, but I figured it was worth bringing up.

That's a good note to have. Check with the home's previous owner to see if they left behind the old FiOS router. If it's not a rented unit (Depends on the age of the install and the router), you can use that and save on buying a new one. Chances are good it may already be hooked up, waiting for the Fiber ONT to be re-provisioned again.

The AC1750, Q1100, and "Quantum" routers are the same thing. Although there are other "AC1750" routers out there, so make sure you search for one made specifically for FiOS. It looks like this:

Those are the only two routers Verizon still fully supports.

It's a rented unit, so I'm pretty sure they didn't.

So my undersatnding is that because I'm getting Fios TV installed, I hae to get one of the aforementioned Quantum routers? If so, then that makes things simple.
