Hi folks,
I'm nearing a decision to switch from Cablevision TV and Internet to FIOS. But I plan to keep my Vonage phone service. I have a few questions and would also appreciate any advice.
First is about coax cabling within my home, a two story house plus basement. Currently, Cablevision has the cable coming into the basement, where it goes into a triple splitter, as follows. One coax goes to the second floor office (which houses the Cablevision modem, Vonage adapter and my wireless router), another to my living room TV, and the third goes to other splits distributing coax to several outlets throughout the house. There is currently no Cat5 from the basement to the second floor office. Also, the Vonage adapter currently resides between the Cablevision modem and my wireless router (it’s a pass through arrangement, as required). Assuming the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) goes in the basement, how would the FIOS folks likely setup shop from that point on?
Is it better to have Cat5 run from the ONT to the router, instead of coax? Assuming we use coax, with the Version supplied A/T router eliminating the need for a modem, so I’m told, how will the Vonage adapter get the signal first and pass it through to the router?
Any info is appreciated, thanks .
Tom
