Internet speed-- not what was promised!

I am a new Fios subscriber. One of the main reasons I chose Fios was the promise of a faster internet. I am paying for 50/25 mb speed, but what I am acutally getting (as judged by the Internetfrog speed test) is approx. 14 mb/s download and 4-5 mb/s upload.

Am I the only one who is not getting what I am paying for? Are these speeds reasonable?

Hi venik212,

Speed tests are only as good as the pathway between you and the server that is testing. You will notice that all internet providers include the words "up to" when describing how fast their speed is. For the most part it depends on which sites you are using and how much traffic is on that site at that time of day. My plan is nearly always fast enough for me.

If you are having issues with transfer speeds to and from particular sites, you can search or post to the internet board and perhaps others will have suggestions to help you achieve your goals.

Back to the original post which got pushed aside.

1. Are you testing your speed on a wired or wireless connection? Verizion, and all other providers, only guarantee wired speeds. Wireless can be influenced by factors beyond their control. Such as: router placement and your computer.

2. I checked Internetfrog and do not believe it is a reliable test. It is less than half of what I get on other speed test sites. Try these.

And yes, I am getting what I pay for. My results on all three of the above sites are better than my promised speed.

Then Verizon needs to stop advertising in their commercials to upgrade to fios

50/25 for all your devices they show all wireless devices in these commercials

this is miss leading and is false advertising.

It is no more misleading than many advertising claims which always seem to have an asterik limiting the claims. How many people actually get the EPA mileage printed on the sticker for their car?

If you think Verizon over hyped WiFi speeds how about router manufacturers? (150 300 450 600 ......1900 ).

I have the 75/35 package and connected using Ethernet often get 80/40.

Standing in the same room as the VZ router I can often get 55 down on its 2.4 Ghz radio. If I connect to the AP I have running off the Actiontec that has a 5 Ghz radio sometimes I can sometimes get 70 down.

I live in an area with lots of WiFi interference. I often can pick up 20 + SSIDs.

I use Ethernet for speed and the WiFi only for convience.
