WCB6200Q with the G3100 Troubleshooting

I just got the newest Verizon router (G3100), the WCB6200Q will not connect to the LAN. Note - I have a couple MOCA adapters that connect fine and a couple old extenders (Actiontec WCB3000N) that I had no issue setting up (actually, I didn't have to do anything!). The WCB6200Q will not connect via coax to the network!

I have factory reset, I have connected to the G3100 and used WBS to sync it, I have tried changing some settings. The coax lines are all fine - like I said, I have connected other MOCA adapters and they work without issue.

Is there a MOCA setting I should change on the WCB6200Q? Maybe some setting on the G3100 (I am afraid to touch those settings as everything else is fine)? I have an extra MOCA adapter I can use as a temp fix, but this is ridiculous! I would appreciate any assistance!

(I did read through a thread that addressed this question previously, but thought sharing what I have done might help someone further troubleshoot, as that other thread essentially said that the extender is not compatible with the G3100 - thinking there is a coax or MOCA software setting that would help)

Got some good and bad news for you.

WCB3000N does work with G3100, however, WCB6200Q is not meant to work with G3100 since Day one. From technical perspective, WCB6200Q's MoCA 2.0 bonded interface should connect with G3100's MoCA 2.5 interface because of backward compatibility. WCB6200Q's MoCA chip firmware, however, is not compatible with that of G3100 and therefore they cannot communicate with each other.

Notwithstanding what I just have said, Actiontec is actively resolving compatibility issues between bonded MoCA 2.0 and MoCA 2.5. Since G3100 and Actiontec's ECB6250 use the same MoCA chip from MaxLinear, anything works with ECB6250 should work with G3100. Recently, Actiontec has confirmed that the NCS (non provider specific) version of the WCB6200Q with the newest firmware (1.1.10.20re) works with ECB6250. Verizon WCB6200Q with firmware 1.1.04.48 should work with ECB6250 too. Since ECB6250 has virtually identical MoCA architect to G3100, I can make a corollary that WCB6200Q with firmware 1.1.04.48 should work with G3100.

I don't know whether WCB6200Q's 1.1.04.48 firmware is rolled out through TR-069, but you can get a binary, machine-readable copy from either Actiontec or Verizon Open Source department by submitting a written request with a nominal fee. (I can try to see if I can compile the open source code for you too.)

What firmware version do you have on WCB6200Q? To see whether the newest firmware is rolled out on Verizon network, connect an Ethernet cable between your G3100 and WCB6200Q, and reboot your WCB6200Q. WCB6200Q would automatically upgrade if there is a new firmware available. To find out whether WCB6200Q can communicate with Verizon's backend, you can go to G3100's Port Forwarding page and see whether there is a new rule named something like TR-69_0xx.

Sorry - just seeing this response. The firmware on my unit is 1.1.10.20a.t. The WCB6200Q I have was not from Verizon, had purchased from Amazon a few years ago. I had already rebooted while connected to the G3100, but sounds like I should see if I can get the update from Actiontec. Thank you for taking time to respond so thoroughly. NCS_CS_1.1L.10.20re should work with MoCA 2.5 from Actiontec. Please right click link and "Save as."
