When using the verizon.com website with my windows 8 phone, I am not able to watch any of the movies or shows with it. Is there going to ever be a fix/change for that or possibly an app?

This is due to dependance on the Flash player. When Verizon moves their website to be fully HTML5 compliant (or their content providers) your Windows phone will be able to play those videos.
Thx - I was hoping to hear about the html5 - did you hear when it may be happening?
I have no news unfortunately. The move to HTML5 has been a slow, painful move for a lot of websites. Not terribly hard, but much of it has to do with legacy systems support, browser interpretation/support, and content protection.
