Wireless Internet Connection Problem

We have a laptop that we use with the wireless router. We were unable to access the internet for a little while today. We contacted Verizon and the representative talked me through resetting the white box. Our desktop, which we connect with through a wired router, was able to get back online. However, our laptop has not been able to connect.

When we open an internet connect, it will come up for several seconds and then it just locks up...can't click on anything or close it. It completely locks up. There is also this icon that appears that looks kind of like a blue lock. It first appeared on the lower right side of the screen (not on the taskbar, but the screen itself). Not it has moved to the top left corner. We also have McAfee Site Advisor loaded on this laptop and that icon has moved from bottom right to top left as well.

Any ideas what this icon might be? It's blue and has a circle on top and a modified square beneath. It kind of resembles a lock, but not sure exactly what it is.

Also, does anyone know what Verizon Fios' wireless network is called? We are showing one named "YVUKE", but I'm not sure if that's our connection or someone else's nearby.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you have an Axtiotec Router from Verizon the essid (Network Name) and WEP Key (Password) will be on a sticker on the Router.

It sounds like the Technician had you reset the ONT (White Box) when they should have had you reset the Actiontec Router. Unplug the Route, wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in. This will clear up some wireless connectivity issues.

We had already rebooted the router before I called Verizon and then when I was on the phone with the rep, he had me do it again. Also, we are able to get access on another computer through that same router.

I did check the name of the router and it's called Ultraline Series3. I don't see any other name that it might be called, so I don't know if this is the same router that you stated.

The blue icon is moveable. My husband just discovered that he can move it around the page, but it is definitely connected to the internet. When he drags it to the task bar, just to see if it can be moved there, it actually goes behind the task bar. We're thinking that we're just going to have to take the laptop to Geek Squad or something. It appears maybe there's a setting that's changed.

It sounds like you have a Westell Router.

If you go to a Command Prompt and type in IPCONFIG does it show a 192.168.1.x IP adress or does it begin with 169 ? If it begins with 192 then you got an address from a router if it begins with 169 then the laptop asigned the adress to itself. If you are attempting to attach to the wrong secured network you may have a 169 address. You can try to logon to the router by typing in 192.168.1.1 in your Browser (IE, Firefox, etc) to confirm your ESSID (Wireless Network Name) and WEP KEY (Password).

Regarding the name of the router. The SSID is what is displayed when you look at available wireless connections. The SSID and KEY should be on a sticker attached to the router. The big blue icon with a lock must be some software on your PC that is blocking your connection. Firewall or parental control software?
