vpn blocking home network

I've had fios for almost a year with no problems, but last week, I suddenly had issues with my vpn connection to access company specific applications. I reset the router to default settings and most of my issues disappeared with the exception of the ability to see my home network and most specifically the printers of this network while the VPN is active. I cannot also see the router itself but all other internet connections are good.

That's what VPN, Virtual PRIVATE NETWORK, means

Once you join the vpn you will only be able to see the stuff behind the vpn. You can no longer see anything on your local area network. It's a security thing. I assume your company finally managed to put in place a real VPN.

Your company must have changed the security settings. Some VPN applications have a feature called Split Tunneling which allows traffic for your company to go across the VPN and local traffic to by-pass the VPN. If this feature is disable by your company as a security feature then you will be locked out of all local resources. They could have changed this feature recently.

I have two VPN methods, one is an SSL VPN which allows me access local resources such as my printer and router.

The second one is an IPSEC VPN which does not allow me access to any local resource. Of course i generally use the SSL VPN so I can still print or connect to my verizon router.
