100 dollar charge for self install

I find it ridiculous that I am being charged 100 dollars for a self-install. I was even told by a customer service representative that they were not performing me a service and would take it off the bill. This business practice seems unethical. Why would I do all the work installing equipment if I could have just had someone do it for me knowing I was going to be charged regardless. Overall dissatisfied with Verizon and its only the first month.
