I want to upgrade to the CR1000A router, currently have a coax connection. Will coax work for home wifi, or do I need to upgrade to ethernet?

You didn't mention what router you currently have. (G1100, I'm guessing?)
You would most likely get a CR1000B now, as that's the latest router (and replaces the CR1000A). It has a coax adapter on the back to provide MoCA service like your current router. However, if you plan to upgrade to a higher speed (over 100 Mbps), Verizon will need to switch your ONT from connecting to your router via coax to connecting via Ethernet. That's a limitation of the coax implementation used by the routers. If you would like to look the router over in more detail, try this link to the CR1000B User Guide.
