FIOS Speed

I have used a number of test sites to check my FIOS speed and all consistently indicate my speed is less than 1 mb when I should have the 5/2 plan. I have tried to use the FIOS Optimizer but for some reason it will not work. But my real question is -How can I test if the download speed is a problem with my computer/router/wiring as opposed to slow FIOS input from the outside?

Thanks to all. I corrected the problem in a low tech way. I simply disconnected to AC to the router for a few minutes and replugged. I don't know what happens but I got my speed back. But I still would like a way to check speed to the router from FIOS, rather than checking through a computer.

Connect you machine to the router using an ethernet cable, then make sure the router shows you are connected at 100mb, then run your speedtest.

Are you using Windows 7?, if so the optimizer won't run. If not what error do you get when you try to run the optimizer?

Verizon will only accept speedtest results from their site if you have a real issue

Alright, I have no idea how to quote, whoever mentioned http://www.speedtest.net/ - that website is not all the time 100% accurate, I have a 25/25 plan, and my download test on speedtest.net usually shows 1-4 mb/s, and when I download a file directly using FTP, my download speed is always higher then 1.5 MB/s, which is 10mb+/s

@Well Verizon offers their speedtest site which they claim to have optimized to show accurate results on upper tier Speed plans. So you should use their speedtest site @ www.speedtest.verizon.net nad use it on a wired computer.

That should give you reasonably accurate results.

Also your downloading from FTP sites or download.microsoft.com (pick a large file like ages of empire) should give you an accurate result too.

the analyzer I posted would show your TCP registry keys and we can easily see if you're pc has bad registry values that relate to the speed.

actually, if your computer is behind a router, i believe what you are testing IS the signal to the router, not to the PC. I believe. You could take the router out of the configuration and then test 'to the PC'
