Fios Router

Hi, one of my set top boxes has totally lost power.   I called tech support.  They told me the three boxes I have are no longer being  used by Verizon, and they are sending a tech to replace all the boxes.   In the process he indicated I should get a new router which is $10 a month rental   My current  router is free.   I prefer to stick with my current router  which is free.   Do I have to switch routers?    I currently have camera that only operate on 2.4.   Do i really have to replace that router, if so, it will cause me lots of headaches   Thanks

What kind of router do you current have? There are no recently EOL'ed routers to my knowledge.
