Fios or copper cable

I recently got Fios just for the fiber but Verizon hops are the worst

I've tried running ping plotter and it always shows high packetloss to our router. For example pinging google.com shows 4-10% packet loss on the first hop, to our router... Pinging facebook shows ~35% packet loss to our router. Pinging pingplotter.com shows ~80-95% packet loss to our router.

There are also other hops to what I think are verizon servers (such as lag-19.PHLAPAFG-PPR01-CC.ALTER.NET) that has ~80% packet loss.

since day one, I called their techs but they are abc123 they don’t know anything.

Wired or wireless? Packet loss to your router means something is wrong within your network or device most of the time. Perhaps there is a loop. Perhaps something is ARP Poisoning, which is common with Parental Control devices like the Disney Circle as well as certain third party network extenders. Perhaps cabling is damaged.

Clear the packet loss issue to your router, first. Once that is resolved, anything downstream to the Internet will perform better. Also, if you are not using Fios TV, there is no requirement to use the Fios router. Feel free to connect your own router to the ONT as long as it isn't a DOCSIS Cable modem, and as long as your router can handle the speed tier you've subscribed to.

Did you try a new cable between the ONT and computer? CAT5e or CAT6a, no flat cables!

If you have, contact Verizon and ask them to check your Fiber signal.
