Does Verizon notify customers when their Fios router is no longer supported (I have a G1100)? I would want to upgrade to a newer router when my current model is no longer receiving security updates.

In the past, Verizon has been good about telling users when routers go out-of-support (EOS.) The last time that happened was the Actiontec MI42WR (the "red band" router.) I had upgraded before it went EOS, so I don't recall getting any notices. I do remember there was lots of discussion here and on other non-Verizon fios forums about it. And I believe they even offered a free or low cost upgrade to users who waited long enough.
Even with that, there are still users of the MI42WR today, either because they don't understand the security issue, or don't want to spend any money when everything "works." So it's great you're thinking about security now!
The G1100 is still receiving security updates, so it's still good to use. I use one, too. I plan to get rid of it when it goes EOS, which I'm guessing will happen soon. But I've been guessing that for the last two years....
To find out when the G1100 goes EOS, I suggest several things. Make sure you're getting email notifications from Verizon, check your bill notifications, watch this forum, and consider some non-Verizon fios forums like DSL Reports or Reddit.
