My Ip Address changed from Dynamic to static

I use a netgeaar router with fios and my Ip address went from the usual dynamic to static without me doing anything.

My ISP is verizon Internet services which a who is gives verizon on Line llc

has verizon started giving static Ip addresses without request.

Any one with information, please let me know 🙂

How do you know it changed from dynamic to static?

the fios ip's when everything is golden, stay with you for a while, but that is because your router is doing it's job at keep alive. they are dhcp still, but you keep the same one for a long time. mine stay for weeks on end. they appear static, but they are not.

static is extra $$$$$$$$$ and you would have to configure your router manually for it. if you don't remember configuring static ip's, then you probably don't have them.

you can also check in the router. once logged in, go to my network at the top, network connections on the left, and then click broadband connection coax, to see how it is set up.

Open a Web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox.

Enter http://192.168.1.1 in the Address field of the browser.

Enter your user name. If you didn't change the user name during installation, enter adminin the User Name field. [Show Me]

Enter the serial number found on the service tag of your actiontec router (under the UPC Bar code, and case sensitive) and click OK.
- Note: If you can't remember your user name or password, you will need to reset your Actiontec MI424WR router to the default settings and reconfigure your home network

It's probably a case of what everyone else is taking about as far as things go for the IP addresses you receive from FiOS. They are quite sticky and you can easily retain them for months assuming the connection doesn't go down or Verizon is working on their network in such a way to rotate the IPs a bit.

But, what's wrong with Static though? Having the same IP is quite useful. Not only for running servers, but for tracking routing performance since getting another IP address may run you though different routes, links, or equipment despite coming out of the same edge router in the CO.

It changed from what I conseideedr normal 98.114.0.0 to 173.59.0.0

When I googled the ranges for Ip addresses on Fios it came up with '173" as being in thse static range.

So i though - strange, better ask on here 🙂

BTW, I don't have the action tech router. Verizon connected me up through my own router 🙂

When I did a look up it shows up as fios but in the range 173.59.0.0 = 173.59.255.255 which is B Class - so I am totally confused now 🙂

The mere fact that your WAN IP address changed indicates that you still have a dynamic IP address.
If you truly had a static IP address, it would have been assigned to you by VZ and you would have had to program it into the router.
