Slow Fios upload speed - CR1000B - potential solution

For the last few months I've been having inconsistent and slow speeds on my Fios connection, especially uploading. A few days ago after the usual round of rebooting routers etc I called Verizon after yet another speed test showed pitiful upload speeds, around 10% of where it should be. They remotely rebooted the ONT and router and all seemed well ... for a couple of hours. Long story short, technical came out and replaced both ONT and router. Again, all seems OK ... for a few hours. Upload speed back to its weak 10 - 80 Mbps (vs. 800 -900 download).

I started searching for people asking similar questions, having similar issues. The most promising was one claiming to have found a solution in the form of placing an unmanaged switch between the ONT and router. Very bizarre, but apparently it solved the issue for some. It got me thinking though, maybe there's something up with the negotiation of Ethernet speeds from the router.

On the router, going to Advanced -> Network Settings ->  Port Configuration(on my CR1000B at least)  I see 4 drop down menus for selecting speeds of the 4 ports on the router. By default they're all set to Auto. For all of the connected port I decided to select 1,000 Full Duplex instead of Auto. Accepting the warning that I'd temporarily lose connection while the change was applied, the change was made.

Speed tests not show upload and download both consistently in the 800 - 900+ territory. 12 hours later and it's still there!

I hope this may help others facing similar issues. If it turns ut to be a permanent solution then I can only think the root cause is the router not able to properly negotiate Ethernet speeds. A bug essentially.
