Verizon blacklisted residential IP-addresses -- is there hope?

It appears, all "residential" IP-addresses on FiOS network are listed (by Verizon) as those, which should not be sending e-mail in SpamHaus' "Policy Blocklist" or "PBL". (You can check your own IP here.) Not every recipient uses this list, when deciding, whether to accept e-mail, but many do -- including Yahoo and GMail.
Combined with refusal to relay the customers' emails through their own servers, Verizon has thus blocked us from sending our e-mail directly.
Our household's volume is not high at all, but I don't want us to use the "free" email services -- because that gives those providers way too much information about us.
I'm perfectly capable of running my own sendmail -- is there any way to escape the blacklisting, though? (I suppose, switching to "business-level" account would work, but that's hundreds of dollars!)
