I am using the WCB3000 as a MOCA adapter. I factory reset the extender, and disabled both Wi-Fi radios.
However, I am getting a mysterious wifi network called "RTL8186-default broadcast from the extender. How can I prevent this?

There was a Reddit post on this from a few years ago. It doesn't sound like they found a solution. I tried the link to DSL Reports in that post, but DSL Reports seems to be down at the moment (with a Gateway Time-out).
If you don't want the wireless features, you might have to get a MoCA adapter that doesn't have it. I couldn't definitively find out what version of MoCA the WCB3000N uses. It seems to be MoCA 1.1, but I'm not sure. You would need an adapter that is 1.1 or backward compatible with 1.1.

Thanks for your reply. I figured out how to turn wireless off. And yet the mysterious RTL8186 SSID remains active. I scanned the html but couldn't find a reference to it. I guess I will live with it.
