Why is Verizon asking me to verify me email address?

I keep getting a screen pop up screen when I log in asking me to verify my email address. The screen "looks" official. I have already "verified" once, but now I'm getting the screen again. I'm concerned this is a scam and someone is attempting to gain access to my email address.

Does anyone know if Verizon is asking for email address verification. If so, why do they need this? How can I get rid of this screen if I don't want to answer?

I have been using DSL for many years and have never seen a pop up like that! I would not recommend entering the address. Are you using a pop up blocker in the browser that you are using? Since you have verified it, have you checked the computer for spyware or viruses?

Verizon shouldn't need to ask you to verify your e-mail address with them, as after all, if it was important it would come in the mail. Over the phone and over e-mail for verification sounds a bit like a scam/phishing attempt to me. Without knowing for sure, if you can provide a Screen Shot of the pop-up you're getting and post it up, that would be appreciated.

If the screenshot will contain any information private to you, such as your Verizon account username or e-mail, you can erase it out of the picture. If this is an e-mail, please preserve the address it is coming from.

I just received a 2nd email, supposedly from Verizon, asking me to verify my email address. After receiving the first one a couple of weeks ago, I called Verizon and verified that the email address on file is correct; however they didn't verify that the email was actually from them. My email address is listed correctly at Verizon in my Profile, so why do they need to verify? And why won't they tell me if the email is legit?

They can't tell you if it is legit simply by asking them on the phone. There are a few things that Verizon may ask to verify e-mail for, but those mainly pertain to anything billing related where you change the e-mail address, or for ordering to verifiy you're ordering with a valid e-mail.

Can you provide to us the full headers of the e-mail? How to get this information is dependant on what you are using to check e-mail. A good bet is to look around the menus in your mail client or webmail program to see if there is an option for viewing the Raw Headers, Headers, or Full Headers. This info will let us see if the e-mail is actually coming from Verizon or not. To be on the safe side, please remove any mention of your name or e-mail address from the headers before posting, just so that spambots don't stop by and harvest that info.

Thanks for the help. I found the header. It says it is from "dcfdpe08.verizon.com with ESMTP". It also shows the return path as "verizon-notification@verizon.com ". So, guess that means it really is from Verizon. Don't understand why they need to update the email since it's correct online and I verified it with them on the phone.
