Using a Google wifi 1gen router, busted recently started noticing it getting an IP6 address. And we use YoutTube TV for our TV service, and started having issues that seemed to be associated with location. so i looked into it. the IP4 address assigned seemed to be out of the philadelphia area (which is where we live) but the IP6 address seemed to show Virginia, which seems to answer the question why YoutubeTV was confused with our location and knocking users off. So i ended up turning off IP6, which seems counter. Because I think it shouldn't matter and expected that Verizon IPs should indicate your located regardless, but seems IP6s addresses show Virigina, regardless, im guessing there is nothing that can be done about that?

The best way to get IP address location info fixed is to keep it enabled and use your devices, especially mobile devices. Mobile devices will combine GPS and nearby WiFi network info to find a location, and Google (and other companies) will eventually give that IP address range a more accurate location based on the GPS/WiFi data that IP address is associated with. Retailers that use third-party geolocation services will also eventually update in the same manner.

Geo location by IP address is an inexact process. There are 3rd party databases out there that attempt to associate IP address ranges with physical locations, as IP itself does not care about location. When ISPs move IP address blocks around their networks, the 3rd party databases can take some time to catch up.

You could try turning IPv6 back on and seeing if you get a different address that Google geo locates correctly. Other than that, the only other option I can think of is to try asking Google to update their database. But I suspect that will be hard to do. Eventually they will figure it out.

Note that if you're watching YouTubeTV on an Ethernet connected computer, this could be something else. Let us know what devices are getting kicked off and we might have other suggestions.

i had disabled it, and reenabled it and a new IP6 address was assigned. then when i checked whatismyip.com, it showed IP4 in Philadelphia but Ip6 again showed Arlington Virginia. SO just disabled it again and will keep it that way

Verizon might've recently shuffled IPv6 address blocks which were in another location, to your area. This might be why the Geolocation on the IP addresses are a bit off right now. Many services need some time to update their GeoIP databases, assuming Verizon told them where the new IPs are approximately located. Google has their own methods to tell where an IP address lives, and should pretty quickly catch on.
