CHEAP REPLACEMENT REMOTES

I was a first adopter to FIOS. My remote is bad and I sent for a new replacement. I was very impressed at how easy and responsible Verizon was. I get the remote and all it controls is the power and the box. I requested a replacement for the one I had that controlled my TV fully as well as DVD and AUX and was told they no longer give them out. I have to use the other remotes. Due to some bone head making a decision to save money and **bleep** off customers, I now have to use 3 remotes again! The company answer was they can forward my comment. My comment is don't be **bleep**! Most FIOS subscribers have large screen high def tvs with surround sound and dvds. Did they really think we wanted to be downgraded?? Send me the original remote I had and take back this thing.

Does the replacement remote look like the original remote (similar to the attachment)? If it does, you will have to program it to match your equipment. Did they send an instruction sheet? If not, I suspect you can download one on the verizon web site somewhere in "Support"

Some of the members here have purchased extra Verizon remotes online very inexpensively. Like 3 for $10. Try Amazon or Ebay or .....

What the OP is complaining about is that the new Verizon remote no longer has the DVD and AUX function buttons. The old Remotes were able to be programmed for up to 4 seperate devices. The new remotes are only a 2 function remote (STB and TV).

This was done for many reasons. Not the least of which was to save money. But part of it is that Verizon doesnt want to support 3rd party devices and as long as the remote could be programmed for DVD's and sound systems, their agents had to spend time trying to help customers program those remotes. Now most of us are intelligent enough to be able to follow directions on the TV and in the booklet to program remotes, but remember that a good deal of customers are either elderly or technophobes. From what I understand from my buddy that works for Verizon, they were spending way too much time trying to help people program the remotes. So he suspects the reason Verizon made the change was simply because they no longer wanted to support non Verizon components. And lets be honest, if we really want an all-in-one remote, there are many out there to choose from.

Well dang!! Guess I got the last 3. Seems a shame for me to have them since I don't use the DVD or AUX functions.

Haven't verified, but someone reported that on the VZ site you can still purchase the old 4 device remotes. Don't know if that is true or not, but probably an inexpensive alternative to the more expensive multi-device remotes commercially available.
