Has anyone else noticed that their FIOS live tv freezes for a fraction of a second? We have been experiencing this quite frequently for the last few days. We heard from another FIOS user in our area that they are experiencing the same thing.
Yes same here, just came to the forums to see what's going on. This just started happening maybe within the past week or so. It will stutter or replay the last 1 or 2 seconds. I have the new Quantum box, and I'm located just outside Philly
Yes! I am also outside of philly and have the same problem. It is really annoying. I notice that when it does it, the channel is displayed on the cable box for a few seconds instead of the time.
Same problem in the Maryland/DC suburbs. I first noticed it Friday 2/20/15. Rebooting equipment has not resolved it.
im in texas and have the same problem with my quantium
I am also suffering from this problem.
I'm in Southern California, so I think we can rule out it being a regional problem.
I've noticed the problem in just the past couple weeks, so I'm guessing it's the result of a software update to the boxes.
I've also noticed that it appears to only happen on my secondary boxes, and not on my main box that acts as the media server. Can anyone else verify this?
Additional problems I've noticed related to the skipping problem:
If you REWIND or PAUSE your live TV (a minute or more is best if you want to see if you share the problem) and then press PLAY it will play just fine for a short period of time (let's say, 30 seconds to a couple of minutes) and then it will experience the freezing/skipping problem. Upon coming out of the freeze/skip it will jump from however far back it was rewound to live TV. This is *highly* annoying. Don't even bother trying to rewind again to catch up on the part you missed, because it will just happen again.
Another problem I noticed (this didn't happen nearly as often, but enough that I couldn't help but notice it), was that sometimes when watching TV with Closed Captioning on, when the signal does the freeze/skip thing it will turn the Captioning off. This didn't happen every time, but enough that I found myself having to switch it back on every couple minutes. Annoying!
I have no idea how to fix the problem but I did find a workaround!
This workaround isn't practical for watching TV all the time, but it's great if you have a movie or a show that you'd like to watch without this annoyingly frequent problem. This won't work if you want to flip around the channels (or even between two channels) while watching the program.
1) Press RECORD
2) PLAY the program you are now recording.
For some reason the freeze/skip problem doesn't happen if you're playing a recording.
We shouldn't have to do this, Verizon.... Please fix this bug!
The problem happens on both my media server and media client
You're all experiencing another great improvement from the recent Quantum software upgrade. But hey, it looks different, right? Who needs it to work properly? Big long thread about this over at DSL Reports.
I've noticed this after the recent software upgrade. It is very annoying. Also, the response time when using the remote is terrible when trying to bring up the menu or while trying to navigate with in the menus!
I pay too much for poor performance. 😞
Same problem over here. I live in Philly Suburbs. My Main Qusntum box (Hub) is skipping for a quick second. Has anyone called to report the complaint? I may call this afternoon.
My problem is that while watching live TV it rewinds a few seconds. The Verizon Tech. reloaded software from remote location and it made using the DVR faster, but did not help the rewind issue. I have Fios Quntuim TV. Anyone else have this issue?
I am having same problem on both main box and satellite boxes. Incredibly annoying!! Philadelphia suburbs.
Anyone come up with a resolution yet?
I'm having the same issue here in NYC. Its a brand new install happening on all channels.
Hello all,
We are aware of the issue, it has been identified, and we will have a fix in place sometime this week 🙂
~Jess
I contacted support about this issue earlier today. They could not fix it and are sending a technician out to look at the issue on Saturday. Based upon the "we are working on a fix" message from Verizon, it seems like a waste of time to have a technician come out.
It seems like there's a disconnect, though - shouldn't the support team know that this is a software problem?
Oh - just to climb on the train, experiencing the same issue here in suburban Maryland.
Ive been having the same problem for the last couple of weeks here in Tampa. It seems to have started after that last software upgrade. IT happens on ll boxes, not just the media server. The frequency seemstp have increased significantly the last 2 days.
Got the same problem here in Virginia. FIOS - what's up??
Same very annoying issue here in Lutz, FL (near Tampa). We just converted to FIOS Quantum and are very unhappy. I timed these interruptions thinking a pattern may appear. Counted 18 glitches in 44 minutes ranging from 30 second to 5 minute intervals and no clear pattern. I agree with a previous post: Why is Support not aware of the problem?
I just noticed this problem Wednesday evening here in the Dallas area, both on the server and remote boxes. The freezing happens every few minutes while watching live TV and is usually just a second or so, but a couple of times the picture froze for an extended time. I had to rewind and then fast forward to continue watching the program. I have also been noticing frequent delays in the boxes responding to key presses from the remote control and wondering if this might also be related to a recent SW update. Let's hope the fix is propagated this week as was stated in the message from the support person.
same here in belleair bluffs fl. just got fios 2 weeks ago. not happy. i may not pay my first bill!!!!! not waiting til march 15th for a fix, that is why i just got rid of brighthouse, didnt show twice to fix a problem. i guess direct tv is next
Experiencing skipping during live TV too. I have been on hold for 25 minutes so far to speak with a tech. Will
most likely hang up soon. Recently upgraded our boxes- I'm thinking is is more of a downgrade now. We
never had any problems before. Rewinding is a problem as well. It rewinds, skips and then go to live TV.
For the amount we pay each month, this is unacceptable. Please escalate this bug Verizon and release a fix
as soon as possible. It is extremely annoying to watch TV with it freezing constantly.
We started having the same problem a couple days ago and it was getting progressively worse. I started searching the web tonight which is how I wound up here. However, before I got here I found another post with some suggestions which didn't actually work for me but led me to try something else which so far seems to have done the trick.
Click Menu > Customer Support > Top Support Tools > Fix FiOS TV Issues. Follow the instructions to reset your Set Top Box.
I've been watching tv for about an hour since I did this and have not experienced the skipping/jumping problem that was happening earlier.
Yes. I have experienced that. Dont have Quantum though. Phila suburbs.
I am having the same issue here in Flowermound TX. And it is getting worse every day. Stuttering playback, The problem with rewinding going right back to live TV after less than 1 to 2 minutes.
I just upgraded to Quantum TV two weeks ago, and never had this problem with the three normal FIOS TV DVR;s we have had for over 5 years.
VZ, Please post an update to this thread on when a fix will be available. Communicate with us.
I tried doing the "Fix TV issues" from within the menu but that didn't help at all.
Bad here in Plant City, FL (near Tampa). Unbelievable, skipping, rewinding, 5-second replays, stuttering, etc. I thought maybe the cat was sitting on the remote or something, or my husband was playing a trick, but not so. I have been very disappointed with Quantum - this was NOT an "upgrade" at all! It is so SLOW! Just changing channels, bringing up a recording, using the remote....get a cup of coffee and take deep breaths. It should not be this stressful to just watch television!
Been happening in Virginia Beach, VA for a couple of days.
Same here in Rockland County NY. With all the posts being so consistent and wide spread it looks like VZ has a problem.
same here in south jersey. I've read all the issues that were listed so far and i am having the same problems..went to quantum on everything..what a mistake.if its not fixed soon..i mean real soon its got to go..no quality service..no contract..hello xfinity
Yes I have the same problem. New service, only 1 month old. This happens even worse if I have paused the show. Sometimes it will jump up to 10 minutes. I ditched comcast because of bad customer service, among other things, but this is really making me crazy. Also, I notice the biggest problem is with the main dvr. The other boxes will hesitate for a few seconds, but the main dvr is an issue.
Same thing here in Northeastern MD for a couple weeks now. Found this thread and haven't called tech support yet because it seems to be a widespread problem. Hope it gets fixed soon. I just got my neighbor to switch to Verizon and a couple channels they told her she would have with preferred tier are gone ( Nat Geo wild and a history channel), plus they gave her 1 room with an adapter (no HD channels on her HD tv, no guide etc.) instead of a box just because she said she didn't need to watch pre-recorded shows in that room. Had to call and get her a hd dvr compatible box sent for $10 more a month. She has the dvr and I don't so I don't know if she's having the same issues yet- feel too bad to ask her since I was responsible for getting her to switch.
Here in SoCal and having the same issues after we stupidly upgraded to FIOS CRAPtum. The media server (aka DVR) starts to suck hard when the memory falls around the 70Mbyte to 40Mbyte range. Reboot and it just sucks less for a few days. I thought they fixed this MEMORY leak in the latest release? Or my media server is just bad hardware.
VERIZION - I am sure glad you decided to have your customers debug the software. It just makes my day paying for a frustration of monument proportions.
Bruce
I am experiencing this same isue over the past few days. Any resolution from Verizon? I also have an issue with the re-wind viewing. I will re-wind and watch a channel and it skips back to live without pushing the remote to return to live.
Thanks.
Ray
There have been reports of an update coming out in the next week or so.
Having the same issue on the media server and 2 satellite boxes. Started earlier this week. Resetting boxes and router didn't work. Located in Central New Jersey. The skipping is also seen in some DVR recorded shows.
Noticed the freezing problem on my quantum server too. Just a quick freeze every now and then during a show. When it freezes the channel number displays on the box instead of the time. I noticed someone else reported the same thing as well. Googled the problem and see I'm not the only one. I know it's a real 1st world problem but am paying some good money for this, would like it to work. Buffalo, NY Area
live in Rockland county, lower hudson valley, new york so the problem is for sure not a local one. this started just a few days ago, and, I can say with certainty, it is most annoying. Please verizon, do something...we just began service, leaving cable, and not very happy with service thus far. Bugs in system do not make for very satisfied customers.
Having same issues.
On media server it seems to skip backwards about 1 second here and there or just flicker. Seems to happen in intervals of about 12 to 15 minutes.
When watching a recorded show that is still being recorded the skip can make it go to live instead of staying on the portion you were watching.
This stopping and skipping on Fios TV has been going on for some time now with only promises from Verizon for a fix.
I truly believe that everyone of us, because this is a system wide problem, should get a rebate for the lack of tv service. I just can not enjoy watching a program that freezes or loses sound or blacks out every few minutes.
Maybe, we should ask our public service commisions to look into the matter for us.
Verizon owes its customers an apology and an adjustment of the cost of the lost service.
I've never had such issues with either broadcast or video on demand services. Maybe you have a bad box. Have you tried asking Verizon for help or a replacement?
Good Luck.
You obviously have not been reading the forum for Fios TV. Many, many, people in all areas of the country are having the problem and Verizon gave us a date in February when it would be fixed. It was not. The new date is Marxch 15. Read about it ion the forum for Fios TV Ttecnical Help
I have read all of the complaints people have.
But I like gs0b have not seen it (or very much).
I can watch TV for hours and never see it.Then maybe once or twice, but it is gone.
So yes some people (the complaints are only a small percentage of total users) are having it worse than others.
I follow all of the posts here and have seen the reports of issues Regardless, you assertion that this affects all FiOS users is untrue. I know of at least one user it doesn't affect; me. Your assertion that this is a wide spread issue affecting all FiOS users is what caused me to respond - it's a statement based on conjecture, not fact.
Remember that people who don't have problems won't be posting about how happy they are, so we users have no way of really knowing how many people are seeing issues like this.
It's possible these problems are only on the new Quantum DVR system. I'm using the older Multi-Room DVR system. I've seen some complaints about Quantum. It is a new system and it does appear that not all the kinks have been worked out based on the reports here. Are you on Quantum?
Oh, and don't forget that this is a peer-to-peer forum. Your requests for account credits and the like will not be seen by any one at Verizon. If you want something from Verizon, you need to contact them directly, not post here.
TV service is not regulated by the government. State PUCs won't step in.
Enjoy.
I am in northern NJ. I do have a DVR but do not have Quantum but notice problem only on live morning TV (specifically TODAY show). My observation is on a TV connected to a box that is not the central dvr box. Approximatesly once every half hour on the morning live show there is a hiccup, where a word/soundbite is repeated - Reminds me a little of one of the effects used for that MaxHeadroom character. I have not observed problem for prime time shows or on evening news shows.
i live in new york and have same the problem
We are having the same problem too, must be a Verizon problem. We are in Parkesburg Chester County Pa.
