Unclear whether "something is being done about it", but there are multiple threads here about the problems with the guide, and these fora are monitored by Verizon employees who occassionally respond and have said that suggestions from this board are passed to the appropriate folks at Verizon.
That said, there is no compelling evidence that anything that is written/reported in these fora has precipitated any changes or improvements to Verizon's product.
In the case of the IMG, several posters have reported that the current Program Guide provider's (an outfit called FYI) contract with Verizon expires at the end of this year, and there has in general been optimistic hope that Verizon will sign on a different (hopefully better) Program Guide provider to provide support in 2009 and on. To my knowledge there has been no confirmation from Verizon that this will happen, but that has been the "hope" on these boards.
We can always hope. (Although "hope is not a strategy"). It would be nice if Verizon indicated what they were doing, or if nothing, then say so.
As far as I can tell, MHz6 (channel 456 in Laurel) hasn't been correct since I started getting service last week.
(Using the Verizon HD-DVR)
Well, I took a couple of minutes and right now (6:00 - 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday 10/22) HGTV-HD is showing "Designed to Sell" but the guide shows it to be "Hidden Potential". When I look at TVGuide.com listings for that channel at that time on Fios it has it correctly identified as "Designed to Sell".
This is just one of probably many incorrect entries in the IMG for this time period. To expect the customers to do the debugging of this ongoing problem is just not reasonable. If you had one (low level) person assigned for a couple of days to simply look for errors, you'd see what we see on a daily basis. The continued data inaccuracies are a blot on the otherwise excellent IMG and have become a huge frustration for otherwise happy customers.
Edit: I am not using a Tivo. I am using a 6XXX HD-DVR and the IMG.
Edit 2: Also, obviously, fixing individual issues is not fixing the problem. The problem is the constant data inaccuracies in the Verizon IMG that are listed correctly on other guides.
In the case of MHz6 (NHKW) I'm in zip 20707 (Maryland). Given that this is a Japanese
channel I thought it might be difficult to get accurate programming information for the
guide, but lo and behold I found http://www.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/english/tv/schedule/index.html
which seems to be right on the money (to the extent I've checked it). From a cultural
standpoint I'd be very surprised to see NHK (a Japanese flagship TV broadcaster) just
randomly changing thier schedule on a whim.
I agree. Our guide is consistently incorrect on any given day for any given channel. Apparently the guide does not update as it does on my TIVO.
The FIOS channel guide continues to cause huge problems when trying to record a series on a weekly basis. Our DVR often records the incorrect show or a reruns instead of a first run, and it can not handle delays in the start of a program due to things like a football game pushing things back by 5 or 10 minutes. Our TIVO has no problems accommodating any kind of programming changes. I will be getting rid of my Verizon box and replacing with an
HD TIVO with cable cards. I'd rather pay for good service than for something that has not functioned correctly since I bought it over a year ago.
While the TIVO box is costly, the monthly service will be about the same as what I'm paying for the rent on the Verizon box. I have no issue with the TIVO channel guide and I can still get movies on demand via TIVO.
Why can't Verizon get it's software corrected to provide at least an acceptable level of performance?
DITTO DITTO DITTO...
I had this problem back in Aug - sep timeframe. I'm in 20164, Sterling VA. It was a nightmare - couldn't determine what was on, scheduling via my HD DVR was impossible.
After customer service issued a couple resets and downloads it was resolved.
The only similar problem I continue to see at this time is one specific network and show (NBC - Days of Our Lives) Info is not correct. It is always 2 days behind. It has been like that for over 6 weeks. I've been told by customer service the accuracy of the Info for a show is out of their control and responsibility.
Ditto to the dittos....
I just switched from Dish Network about a month ago - mainly to get everything on one bill and get the dish off my roof for cosmetic reasons. But this "Menu Guide" is just waaaay too frustrating for words and Verizon's lack of response to the threads up here about it makes it even more unacceptable.
I recall seeing in another thread -- off to find it now -- something about the contract with their service provider expiring at the end of this year. So I'll give them until after the holidays to either get it replaced or at a minimum annouce a definitive date to do so. Otherwise, I'm heading over to Comcast-land!
At this point I'm REALLY regretting my decision to switch. My DISH dual-tuner HD-DVR let me have PIP, was accurate, fast and user-friendly, and its remote would go thru walls. I had to purchase a $55 add-on RF remote extender from Next Generation Home Products to be able to control my electronics that are all stored in a closet behind the wall-mounted TV.
The only plus I've been able to appreciate is the ability to watch recorded shows from other STB's....but is only if it records the correct show, of course!
Guide Listings are frustrating to say the least. Here is one example of many... Thursday Night Football on the NFL Network.
Not on the guide.
Is anyone out there in Verizon aware of this and doing something about it???
Are they listening? APPARENTLY NOT!!! This guide just SUCKS PERIOD!!! I constantly I have incorrect guide data. It list one show but when I tune in its not that show? Do you know how many shows that have not recorded because of guide related inaccuracies. I DVR WoodWorks, and I have missed several shows! I would have part 1 then never get part 2?
PLEASE DO US A FAVOR AND FIX THIS!!!!!!

KaLin
Guide shows Minnesota vs. Pittsburgh on Versus tonight.
THAT GAME WAS PLAYED LAST NIGHT!!!!
is it really this hard??

We are listening and we are aware of the problem. If anything else is heard about any fix for this coming up i will post it here and have it stickied for you guys to see. With the end of the year coming up you can expect some changes to happen.
TS
Thanks for listening! We anxiously await the improvements...
Figured I would go ahead and put up an update for you guys. I spoke to one of our people in network support and there still hasn't been any word on a new vendor, if one is to be selected. These types of decisions are usually kept very tight lipped and the FSC usually gets notification 1-2 months after it has happened. If I hear anything else I will post up immediatly. I would also like to point out that many features upcoming and implemented now have actually come from online user bases. Some examples are more than one favorites channel list, parental control improvements and those little mini games on our standard boxes. Not to mention you guys will usually report bugs faster than anyone else calling in will ie remote web dvr not working properly. So from me thank you guys for your attention to detail and just know that we do listen and forward along information. Thanks for being part of the FiOS community.
@Artech wrote:It appears everyone is getting the same response from Cherise at FYI (i.e. 'Understand our frustration... please send specific info and zipcode so they can look at our listings'.). I have responded that the listing errors are bad enough, but it's the REAL TIME updates to the guide that needs addressing when programs are pre-empted or delayed. For me, it often causes the wrong shows being recorded.
No one offers real time updates. Even the best guide data providers lag by at least 12 hours.
You should also keep in mind that many preemptions are specific to your area or region. Take the example of CBS. CBS shows different games in different regions and some games go over while others do not. For other preemptions, affiliates have equipment similar to your DVR, which lets them record a program and then play it back as other programs finish.
I have used TiVo, Comcast, DirecTV, and now FiOS. The sports is a problem on all of them. That aside, the GUIDE DATA on FiOS is last in accuracy. Verizon needs to apply pressure to FYI or switch to someone else such as Tribune. Comcast has plenty of problems with their DVR and vanilla featureless DVR, but they do have terrific Guide Data. I would most certainly look into whomever Comcast uses.
A couple examples I had were the first presidential debate... The guide had Bush and Kerry. The other has been Thursday Night Football wasn't even in the guide the first week it started on the NFL Network. The second week it showed up in the guide one day before the game.
12/20 75062
channel 570 ESPNHD - 10AM-130PM (central) College Football Wake Forest at Army
the game is actually Wake Forest at NAVY
Got an update for you guys. At this time there is no plan to change our guide data provider. There are only three major ones in the US(FYI, Gemstar, Tribune). With Tribunes' parent company up in the air financially at this time it leaves only one other option. Doesn't look like anything is going to get done on this one. Sorry folks.
Well, clearly FYI is lousy, so looks like if Verizon wants to improve the guide they need to look to Gemstar. Comcast uses Gemstar and the Comcast guide data (not their iGuide) is Comcast's only bright spot. IMHO.Please Verizon, make the change!@TheSanchez wrote: Got an update for you guys. TS,
That is really, really bad news!!! Do you have any idea whether it is due to a longer contractual commitment that we are all unaware of, or just lack of will to change? Don't the Verizon powers-that-be understand the major dissatisfaction in the FiOS community with the Guide data?
Do you have any suggestion on who we should direct our complaints to? I am not going to use the "Contact Us" links here, they are pretty much useless, but I really would like to make sure that Verizon's executives are aware of how bad the guide service is.

I know how upsetting this is because I am a consumer too and i cant tell you how many episodes(ill be it repeats) ive recorded and it not be what i thought it was. They did inform me they work with FYI every day to try to keep all info current. As for who to contact for this one the best place would be the FSC actually. When you call in to the FSC for a video problem and we are unable to resolve or you make any type of adverse comment about the service there is a special flag that we put on the ticket(were supposed to do this every time) before we close it out. All flagged tickets are reported to the proper people. Other than that I really dont know of anywhere else to register an actual complaint. Make sure you tell rep to mark the adverse comment field of your troubleticket to yes if you call in about this and you will be ok.
So, when will FYI provide data for MLB Network. It started today 1/1/09 at 6 pm but the guide still says coming soon.
That really is bad news. I had been hoping since not long after I signed on to FIOS that it would improve the Guide and stopped complaining about it when I'd heard in other threads that Verizon was going to do something about this when its current contract ran out with FYI at the end of 2008 (Well it's 2009 and no change? Was this rumor just a ploy to get some of us customers to stop complaining?). However, as I remember, initially the Guide wasn't all that bad and then we got a program update and the Guide went to hell. It's not just the incorrect listings, it's also lack of info. Most listings do not show the actor's names for movies or series, original air dates for series, release dates for movies, accurate program description (and many times just says No Program Information Available when other Guides do give an accurate and informative listings), etc. Do I remember correctly that there WAS a more accurate and informative guide provided by FIOS, and if so couldn't it go back to offering it?
It's just very hard to believe that Verizon is not addressing a problem as prevalent as this. But, if it took my suggestion from another thread to work out a deal with TiVo, it could resolve the equipment problems (lack of hard disk space), the Guide problems (lack of accurate and informative info) and the operating system problems (lack of or poor DVR features). It's an assumption on my part, but I would think that Verizon couldn't discuss such an arrangement with TiVo when it first came out because TiVo had an agreement with DirecTV. Now that it doesn't, and considering the present state of our economy, it might be an ideal time to negotiate a deal with them.
Verizon could then be able to offer expandable equipment, an effective operating system and an accurate and informative Guide. Put those together with the best picture quality available and Verizon would lock up the Number One slot as the company to be with!
If you use a TiVo then you are using Tribune's guide data (Very accurate and full of useful information). Comcast uses Gemstar and they too are much improved and better than FYI (Verizon's provider).
Directv has a new deal with TiVo, so not sure whether Verizon even wants a deal with TiVo. The Comcast deal with trying to put TiVo software on the Motto DVR has been nothing short a disaster.
I have used guides from Comcast, Directv, Cablevision, and now Verizon. Hands down the best guide for speed and visual appeal is Verizon's IMHO.
But Directv and Comcast have the best guide DATA, period. If Verizon switches providers then I feel they would have the best overall guide out there.
I am so very hopeful that Verizon will make the change. I have my doubts they will for whatever political reasons involved. If it is purely financial then Verizon is certainly getting what they are paying less for. Less.
