Lengthen default time for pausing a program?

Is there a way to make the time you can pause a program longer? It seems to revert back to live tv rather quickly.

It is hard coded in the box firmware and can't be user set.

The buffer consumes hard drive capacity. Any increase in the buffer -- to allow a longer pause -- would reduce the capacity for recorded programs.
