This thread is for any Video Playback Issues associated with Media Manager.
1. Is it showing the video in resolution lower than the original? It seems not as clear.
2. Can .MOV be supported in the future? My Cannon camera records in .MOV 1280x768. I would prefer not having to convert the format.
Separately, can the future remote control buttons be made easier to press (use less force)? It's pretty hard and with a lot of clicks it gets a bit tiring on the thumb.
So I just downloaded the new media manager and tried to get the video to work. I get the message "Media Manager is unable to play the video at this time. Please try again later"..
Can someone help?
thanks

As in, it won't play back ANYTHING. Internet, AVI, MPG, MP4.. it all times out.
I've installed the latest version of the MM software on a PC wired directly to the router, I've installed the latest Windows Media Player, I'm on XP SP3.
Media Manager software can see and will play files (though not all are shown.. I assume that's a CODEC issue), the STB lists the files the software does, but when trying to play them back, it times out.
I've reset the PC. I've reset the STB. Music plays, Photos show.. but Video will not.
Are you able to stream pictures/audio? If so, what file format is the video in?
i like to watch old tv shows on www.in2tv.com
they do not allow users to download the shows. will i be able to watch them on my tv via media manager in the future? as far as i can tell, you can only watch video that is saved on your PC & the 3 or 4 websites that are accessible via the media manager.
I also upgraded my media manager to the latest version and can't get videos to play correctly. Only a small percentage will start, maybe 20%, and every single one has severe audio and video stuttering. Audio plays in 1/4-1/2 second bursts, video is mostly broken up, like a bad digital signal. My system is also hardwired into the FIOS router and there is no other traffic on the network and nothing else running on my PC, which is running XP SP3.
On a good note the new version of the media manager appears to finally play slideshows all the way through. With the prior version I never was able to get even a short slideshow to complete. It looks like that problem has been solved.
Brian..
The streaming music and the photo's work fine. I also established the security pin but that had no effect. The formats for the videos are AVI, MPG and WMV.. I'm running the XP Pro operating system.
The sample FIOS video (Japan Harbor) doesn't work either..
Same error message.
any suggestions?
Lucky,,,,I've only be able to play back about 10% of the videos that I've tried.
Boy, Verizon still gotta long way to go...
Having the same problem. Help!!! Can't play any local video files or any of the internet sites...
I made the mistake of walking away from my PC when installing the latest version of media manager. When I came back I saw a dialog box asking about something to do with ffdshow. Unfortunately, the dialog box had a timer associated with it and before I could read & decide what to do it automatically closed.
If you are having issues with Media Manager, please try to do the following and PLEASE let us know if it resolved your issue:
1. Exit Verizon Media Manager.
2. Go to 'C:\Program Files\Verizon\Verizon Media Manger\LiveUpdate' (or if you don't know how to do that, copy paste that in Run (Start -> Run) without the ' ' and press OK.
3. Double Click vzLiveUpgrade.exe
4. Let it run through the update and do any installations it needs to do.
5. It should reopen Verizon Media Manager.
6. Test using the sample video that comes with Media Manager first before your own.
I am able to successfully view video from my PC on my TV.
Why doesn't the software support .MOV files? Many of my home videos are in the format as it is the format used by Kodak cameras to save the files.
Not sure yet why we are not able to support the .MOV files, but there are many free converters out and available on the internet if you do a google search.
This is the initial release of streaming video in Media Manager and Verizon is always open to suggestions to creating a better product for its customers.
I updated my K-lite codec pack (used for orb which I also run on the same system). When I fired up media manager again the ffdshow dialog box popped up again. It asked if ffdshow should allow media manager to use ffdshow - to which I said yes. After doing so, I am now able to stream video but my music files still do not play....
FYI.. The video quality is poor. Changing the bit rate from medium to medium-high to high makes no change in the video quality. I am running media manager on an AMD 4200+ / 1GB RAM / Gigabit NIC card / CAT-6...
Anyone else having trouble viewing mpeg video files from their PC in Media Manager?
Tech support says tough luck we sell it and take your money but you are on your own so here I am.
The problem is, when I push "OK" to play on the thumbnail on the TV in Media manager after the 15 second wait the operation times out and says try again. the photos and music play just fine on the TV and the videos play in Media Manager on the PC but not the TV
HELP!!!!! Anyone?
I've had some luck by totally uninstalling Media Manager from my pc and downloading a fresh copy..
hope that helps
I am still having difficulties with this issue. Some videos play, but most including Tokyo Harbor simply time out. Tried putting MedManager on Wireless Laptop and Tokyo Harbor played from that server 1 time and then timed out when i tried to play it again.
I tried removing ffdshow. uninstalling MM, rebooting, installing MM, rebooting but still no luck. (using Vista Home Premium)
If you are unable to view videos via MM or are experiencing "choppy" video, here are the initial T/S steps:
The following steps should be used as a guide to resolve errors that may occur while using Verizon’s Media Manager to play video files.
1. In Media Manager, verify that critical dependencies are met by clicking on Help>Dependency Checker Wizard.
2. Reboot the 3 components: PC, Set-Top Box, and the Verizon router.
3. Verify that your PC is hardwired to the router
4. Verify that you can view the Verizon sample video on both your PC and your TV.
5. If able to view on PC but not on TV, run the VZLive Update from the Media Manager utility on your PC. Click on: Help>Video Component Check.
6. If you can view the sample video but not your own video files, check that the video is in a supported format.
If all of the above steps have been taken and you still experience video playback issues, please post here of contact Verizon Technical Support at (888) 553-1555.
I am having issues with MM playing back videos on my TV as well. Some videos, such as the sample videos, and some others from my computer play OK but others do not. I am trying to play back an MP4 video on the TV. This video plays OK in MM but when I try to play it on the TV I get the unable to play at this time message. Another MP4 video in the same playlist plays just fine on the TV. Why the difference? when I run update it says I have the latest software upgrade.
The video playback is not even close to being ready for prime time. Verizon should remove it and go back to the drawing board.
I have tried every tip in this forum. My computer is running a quad core amd with 4 gig of ram off a sata drive. Video on MM is pixelated, blurry and that's when the video plays at all.
My xbox 360 connected to the same computer plays the same exact videos just fine over a wireless connection.
What's up Verizon?
I have had some playback choppiness with some movies. I use the ffdshow codec which is pretty much a gold standard for codecs. I have an i7 920 w/ 12GB of RAM and the videos are hosted on an SSD drive.
My main issue however is when I am playing the videos to my TV they are 16:9 but show up on my Samsung LN55A as 4:3. My Home media HD DVR is conencted vis HDMI (not that it matters for this issue). Is there a Setting I am missing somewhere? I have updated my Verizon Media Manager software on my PC.
Can I get a reply on this/ Someone else must be ahving the 4:3 issue I am experiencing. Brian K? Am I missing something here?
Been reading the thread and I have similar problems in not being able to play videos.
I can not play the Tokyo.wmv, but the weird part is that I can play some videos. basically, I can play anything encoded as MPEG1. No AVI, No WMV, No MPEG2.
Does this make any sense to anyone?
- dan
When I try to scan a video folder or add a file to the playlist, I get the message "The media files you are trying to scan may be corrupted or not supported by Media Manager" despite the fact that the files I am trying to scan are supported. I am running Windows XP.
4:3 issue, reply, anyone?
Buc,
What is your SD override setting on the set top box set to. Main Menu -> Settings -> Video Settings -> SD Over ride?
For me on my 16:9 screen, if I set it to any thing other than OFF it plays in 16:9 w/o letter boxing. But if i set it to OFF it is playing in 4:3.
Hope it helps,
"The media files you are trying to scan may be corrupted or not supported by Media Manager"
I get the same error message. Funny thing is, I lowered the resolution on my DVD rips (yes, they are my DVD's) to play on my cell phone, and those videos upload and play just fine. I think the MM is having a problem with any videos over 1GB...
My rips are all MP4, FWIW.
Regarding your 4:3 issue. I'm jealous you even have this issue yet dissapointed I can't help you.
Why can't I help you? Because none of my video's play at any ratio. I'm ratiolesss.
Sorry I couldn't help but enjoy the fact that your video actually plays back at all.
My 4:3 issue was the SD override seting on my FiOS STB. Now it stretches he SD shows, but I digress.
Really FOS has top notch service. However the STB's they use are garbage.
1) Some videos play in monochrome (green color) on the computer screen while others work fine. These videos happen to work fine (in color) on the TV. This problem is also associated with one of the 2 machines I have. Any ideas what the problem is and how to correct it.
2) My machines are on a Mbps LAN but the streaming video quality on the TV is poor compared to what I get directly on the computers. I have tried to increase the bitrate on the Media Player, but no difference. Any ideas on how to correct it?
To whom it may concern at Verizon:
Worst Product Ever
any time i try to stream videos, they lag terribly and usually stop playing halfway through or so. the videos are AVI encoded with either DivX or XviD (both are supported by the media manager). also, the quality of the videos look worse than VHS when they're streamed. i've spoken with 2 techs, both of which provided little to no information on this, with the exception of telling me to reset my router which didn't help at all. what can i do to fix this?
Hello,
I will try the suggestion but perhaps I have a different problem. I have uploaded digital photograps from my Samsung camcorder successfully but when I try to upload video from the same camera I get a message that I may not be able to view because the video format may not be supported. What do I need to do here?
Amazingly the media play back still sucks. Keep up the good work.
One reason we are having playback issues with videos is because Verizon isn't telling us enough about what media is supported. I am new to media manager, but pretty experienced with media. On this page:
http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/FiOSTV/Guide/Enhanced+TV/QuestionsOne/124966.htm
there is no mention of what resolutions or bitrates can be handled by the software.
There are three major factors that affect playback. 1) Video Format, 2) Resolution, and 3) Bitrate
If the resolution or bitrate are too high, you'll get poor quality or no playback at all (even if you are using a supported video format like mp4).
My first experience with media manager went like this:
I took a bluray rip of a movie and encoded it into an MP4 file at 1920x1080 resolution (what we call 1080p) with a Variable Bit Rate average of 4000k.
Media Manager said it did not support the file.
I then re-encoded the same raw rip to an MP4 file at 1280x720 (720p) and a VBR of 2000k. The file looked fine in Media Manager, but when I streamed it to my livingroom plasma tv, it looked worse than an old VHS tape.
I'm hoping that this is just a software issues and that Verizon puts some real coding effort into getting Media Manager up to the High Definition standard of the rest of their services. I have a ticket in with tech support on this very issue and will post what I find.
I posted this on the "MEDIA MANGER ISSUES" thread and have gotten no response, so will try here.
...
When displaying my PC pix on my TV, either the DVR or Media Manager is stretching my 4:3 and 6:4 photos to fill my 16:9 screen. If I crop the photo to 16:9, then the picture shrinks slightly in the vertical. Is there a setting somewhere to make the system retain aspect ratio? I would like to see my photos as large as possible with no distortion; my DVD player (showing .jpg from USB) can handle this issue with no problem.
i think i post about this product more than anything else, but man is it just bad. glad to see that other users experience the same issues. i do think that its funny that they tout this as a 'feature'.
I have a quad core computer. I get 25/25mps both down and up on speed tests. This computer is hardwired to the router.
When I was with DirecTV I used Tversity to flawlessly stream videos from my computer to my DVR and from there to my HDTV. I was a very happy person. Now I have FIOS and I tried the same setup. First off, Media Manager doesn't support as many video types as Tversity did. Next, the video quality is crap. Huge swatches of patches in multicolors dancing here and there sporadically. Constant hiccuping of both video and sound. About 4 to 7 times a minute. As the recording gets to about the 7 minute mark the audio is noticably playing faster than the video is. By the time it is at the 35 min mark the audio is about 3 to 4 seconds off of the video sync and the hiccuping is now about 25 times a minute. Yes, like every 2 to 3 seconds! But you try and bare with it to just get to through the last 5 minutes.
I guess I am back to burning videos to DVD's where I can watch them on my DVD player flawlessly in HD, have the sound sync up and have the ability to fast forward and reverse without it crapping out.
Dependency Checker Wizard is not an item on Help in MM 9.3.37. Is there some other way to trouble-shoot choppy video? This is one of the main reasons I switched from Comcast and so far it's not tolerable so we have to watch movies on the tiny screen in my office. I am very dissatisfied.
Thanks,
Geoff Stuart
Has anyone been able to stream video files from their computer to their tv without it looking horrible? I have been fooling around with some movie files and .avi look terrible with big blotches of solid color. Trying right now to convert to a mpeg to see if they are recognized by the software. Has anyone fooled around with this and actually got it to play a movie file that you can watch on a big screen?
Have you checked the video settings in media manager to see if they are set on high or max? If it is set to high or max already, that is the best the video is going to look. I am sure as they fine tune things and update the software that it will get better. but for now...that is it. My kids are getting use out of mm in their rooms because they don't have big screens. They are able to watch a video without seeing that the picture really does stink. The best for what you are trying to do is the Xbox 360 of the Ps3. The quality is great.

Hey, thanks for this post. I am running into problems right now trying to get avi videos to stream. Some do and some dont. Like you said, I feel it has to do with the resolution and bitrate of the file. If it they are too high then I think that is where the "video not supported" nag is coming from.
I'll use Media Manager and You Tube Widget fine, and the next day it won't work. You Tube says "Error in Playing Video." MM gives an error. I fix both by reinstalling Media Manager, but this is ridiculous I have to reinstall every time.

Wow... So because of an FTP issue I was having I swapped out my new MI424WR Rev. E router for my old MI424WR Rev. D router. The main different between the two of them is that the new one has a dual core 64bit processor and is therefor supposed to handle way more data... If you are watching HD FIOS TV, kids are downloading 3.2mbs torrents and wife is streaming audio into another room, this new router was supposed to combat choppiness.
So... My old router which uses way less power is now handling my FTP connection like a pro...
But wait, there's more!!!
So I say, hmm... Perhaps I should also try out my streaming video problems???
I am happy to report they are all fixed too! I can now download something to my computer, stream it to my TV using Verizon Media Manager and have it show up without hesitation, choppiness or unsync'ed audio/video.
If you are having a problem with crappy video I highly recommend you find someone that got the FIOS service for the Internet only and did so about 3 to 5 years ago... Swap routers and they get something that consumes more power, but is supposed to be all that and a bag of chips... Don't worry about feeling like a jerk about it because they don't watch FIOS TV on their router and they don't FTP anything unless they are a webmaster... You get working video, snappy FTP connections and pride in knowing that your proverbial Toyota Prius of a router is saving the planet while doing a better job than its beefier counterparts!
Hello. I seldom ask for help, but I am desperate. I have been using Verizon Media Manager for 3 months now, and until recently it has been working just fine. About a week ago my Media Manager started to act up, and I am now unable to stream videos to my TV. No matter what format the video is, I get a "This video cannot be played at this time" error; what makes this really strange is that when I go back to my PC I see a error notification:
Microsoft Visual C++ Debug LibraryDebug Assertion Failed!Program: C:\Windows\SysW0W64\regsvr32.exeFile: f:\dd\vctools\crt_bld\self_x86\crt\src\tcspy_s.inlLine: 30Expression: (L "Buffer is too small" && 0)For information on how your program can cause assertion failure, see the Visual C++ documentation on asserts.(Press Retry to debug the application)
I've done all I can to remedy the problem but nothing seems to work.
I would really appreciate it if I could get some help, I'd like to solve this problem as soon as possible. Thank you.

The old routers have small NAT tables that can cause problems with server lists in Steam. When the nat table is full the routers will appear to hang. I have a Rev E router and have no problems with steaming the video to my TV.
What I don't like is the transition between videos is choppy with blank screens and sound. Using media manager is like watching a video using remote desktop to watch a video, it can be done, but why.
I'd also like to add that I am running on a clean install of Windows 7 at the moment, and I am still getting the same problems.
Does anyone know when we might see an upgrade to media manager for MAC's. I am looking to do internet radio and video streaming to my TV like I can with my Windows PC.
Hi, same issue here. I am also on Windows 7. This exact problem happened a month ago. Tech service was no help. Found a forum somewhere on the web and it stated to just reinstall the media manager. It worked like a charm then. Used it for a month with no major problems. Now the dreaded "Cannot play video at this time" is on every video.
There seems to be a new version of media manager that was updated to my computer. I will try the older version if possible and see if there is a fix.
Also I would like to know how to get the best video quality when doing this. Some videos are unwatchable when shown on a 42" HD TV.
Keep this thread going as we are pretty much on our own as Tech guys at Verizon will just go through the normal troubleshooting basics. This is a unique problem that only some are having.
Why bother releasing an obviously flawed piece of software and cause yourself endless technical support calls? Makes no sense what-so-ever. It streams. Then it doesn't. Streams a portion of the file. Then it doesn't. And no support other than "reinstall"... Pathetic.
The concept is a great one. Too bad Verizon doesn't have a clue what it's doing in terms of software development.
I'll continue to use my Boxee Box and patiently wait for GoogleTV. Keep it up Verizon... Soon I'll be able to use my phone provider as my ISP... and I don't mean you!!
This has been an ongoing problem, which only gets more frustrating when you make a call to Verizon, their reply is always the same, it must be in your connection or cable, we can send a tech, but we must advise you there could be a charge. But I can never get a simple answer as to why sometimes it works and then it doesn't. The "techs" on the phone assure me, that NO ONE else has reported this problem, therefore it must be with our cable. If anyone gets an adequate answer, or if Verizon figures out what the problem is, PLEASE post it!!
Here are my "observations" on getting the software to "function" and achieve better video resolution results.
* The software is seriously flawed. Understand this. The flaws are not OS specific. I have tried installation on all the supported OS'es with not discernible improvements. For reference: Windows 7 (fully patched), Intel Core 2 Quad 2.83 GHz, 4GB RAM DDR3...
Other OS'es were direct hardware installed, (not virtual) although I did initially try that too.
Install software. Run video component check tool. Scan folder location of videos.
I generally only use videos that are 1024 * 768 resolution or higher; avi, wma, divx etc...
Videos play. I will admit that my videos playback (considering compression codec) are pretty crisp. The video source will always make the biggest impact on image quality. Also running 120Hz refresh, which makes a big impact as well.
When videos cease playing, I initially stop playback, restart playback, FF to freeze point in video and resume playback.
When "freezing" begins to occurs more frequently (shorter intervals during playback), I simply uninstall completely and reinstall.
It's insane, but it will usually allow you to view at least one video file in it's entirety (multiple videos if they are contained in the same folder location and you allow "auto playback" of videos in sequence) for that viewing session.
That's basically it.
When re-installing the software after freezing issues, I run the VBscript.dll command:
Start->Run, type the command: regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\VBScript.dll
then uninstall and re-install.
The software will usually work for a day or a few videos before the freezing issues begin to occur... which requires re-installation. Insane.
There are alternatives : Direct cable to the TV: PC mode (cheap and very effective choice if your set supports it; input determines quality), or go the Boxee, XMBC, or XBox/Windows Media routes. There are other hardware solutions (Zino HD for example), but I'm content to wait for GoogleTV specs before any major purchases.
On a side note... Why hasn't Verizon created a filter for adult content material for On Demand searches?. I shouldn't be subjected to Toy "Sexcapades" when I'm searching for "Toy Story 2" whether my kid reads or not... Seems software development is a weak spot at Verizon...
For your OnDemand Adult Titles comment ...
Turn on parental controls and then select "Hide Adult Titles" under that menu.
I have given up on Media Manager, it's one of the buggiest programs I've seen in years. I am constantly having to uninstall and reinstall it. My bedroom PC has a VGA cable going to my TV, so I don't need it there anymore. I'm thinking of getting a new DVD/Bluray player that can watch internet videos as an alternative.
I have installed media manager on a Windows 7 machine with 4 GB RAm. I can view pictures and music from my TV but when I try to view videos they display graphic squares all over and the audio is extremely choppy. If I open the file on the PC in Media manager and try to play it there the file plays fine. The PC is directly connected to the router. I also checked that the firewall settings were correct for Media Manager. I also tested this with the firewall shut off and it made no difference.
I keep getting an error that says Media manager cannot play this video in full. Please try playing another video. Why is it that media manager cannot continue playing the file if it already started playing the file? I have tried other video files and they all play in its entirety. I have also tried it on more than one set top box and still get the same error
is there a way to change the aspect ration in which videos play? right now all videos are being converted to 4:3. anyway it can be forced to be played in 16:9 or play in the aspect ratio the video is in?
O.K.Here is the V. Media Player issue then. The quality of videos transfered from my PC to my TV is horrible. The videos look o.k. when played with the VMP on my PC. I am running XP SP3 with all the necessary codecs. When I use my DVR to access my PC ( and that access all works fine) and play the videos it seems that either the VMP transfers them with a lower quality (even if "high" is chosen in the VMP settings) or the DVR reduces the quality when receiving them.
My PC has enough memory, a fast enough processor and the latest Windows XP SP3 updates.
The PC is direcly wired into an ethernet port on the Verizon modem and the modem and my DVR hang via coax directly on the splitter, which is supplied from the fiber optic converter box.Looks like either there is some filtering going on or the VMP to DVR interaction is just not state of the art technology.
I just upgraded from an SD box to a 7100 P2 today. Trying to use Media Manager to display video from my PC and I am getting "We encountered an error. Please visit your computer and click on Media Manager Help menu. Select Video Component Check and follow the instructions to resume video playback on TV screen". When I do that, something runs and seems to install some files, but the window goes away without giving me any instructions. What's strange is, I was able to play a video the first time I tried it with the sample Tokyo Harbor video, then I loaded some of my own videos, now I can't play anything, including the sample file.
I am running Windows 7 Professional x64, if that makes any difference.
I've been trying to load some pictures for it to play and even though I point the program at folders with images, it doesn't seem to like them. But that's another problem.
BTW I also cannot play Youtube videos -- I get "error in playing video". Internet radio stations work.
Also (separate problem) no matter what type of music I try to get loaded in the library, it tells me it's not a supported format.
So I discovered the problem.. It needs to run as administrator. If I "Run as Administrator", it works fine.
Hi
I like the concept of media manager but the Verizon implimentation is lacking.
I have FIOS media manager and Sony PS3. I have a PC that is the home for my video collection.
When compared to each other:
1. PS3 will play more video formats, including many avi's that FIOS wont see.
2. PS3 will play 720 and 1080 videos at full screen on my HD wide screen TV, Fios plays them with a border around them. Why is this? Is there a setting somewhere that controls this? Pleas don't state the obvios as i have experimented with all the settings in the Media manager software. I believe the problem is with the player in the DVR box. Including the auto scale and default/High quality switch.
3. The PS3 Quality is much much better than Media Manager. Same network same source PC, the only difference is the playback unit.
4. The PS3 recovers from the rare blip in the buffer connection. Fios just dies.
I also have an Xbox 360 and its quality is superior as well.
I can stream excelent quality videos from Netflix accross the internet, Why can't I scream similar quality video from my own Intranet.
If any one knows of these problems and has any solutions, I would be happy to hear from you. I have 5 Fios boxes in my home. I only have one S3 and one xbox 360.
It would be nice if i could stream great quality video to any on my Fios Boxes. It would also be nice to be able to scream tomore than one at a time as well.
Are there any upgrades in the near future that will improve on these issues?
Maybe fios just needs to be able to play 'FILES" from "Shared drives" on the box instead of going the stream route.
Thank you
Jerry Cic
I am a new subscriber to Verizon's Fios TV. I was looking forward to playing supported video files from my PC through my DVR to my TV using Media Manager. Now I sit here broken hearted. Not only is the video quality horrible, but it won't allow me to "fast forward" no matter what kind of supported video file I use. The video does play (although horribly pixilated) and the pause functions normally, but when I try to use the "fast forward" function, the video freezes up (although the progress indicator still counts up as if the video is still playing) When this happens I have to start the video from the beginning and view what I've already seen. A serious flaw which in my opinion should not be passed off as a "known issue" according the fios tech department. If anyone has some thoughts on this, I would appreciate hearing from you.
Indeed, the concept of media manager out of the box support is awesome, but the actual implimentation is not all that practical for usage. The quality is just terrible.
This might have to due with the Set Top Box's hardware limitations and that it may not be powerful enough like the PS3 to output high quality video streaming, other than standard defintion.
What I want to know is the exact video resolution, bitrate, and audio the Set Top Box supports. That way, we can transcode our own video to as optimal quality setting that the Set Top Box supports without it doing on-the-fly conversion. As the compression it does on the fly is what kills the video picture quality.
Just to let everyone know, I've gone 10 rounds and have been to New Delhi with Verizon. I am sorry to say that there is no resolve in sight with Media Manager Playback issues. What's puzzling is that I can't get anyone to say that they've used the program with even marginal success. I've talked to representatives who have been polite but state that there is currently no "lab" set up to test these issues. Perhaps one of them said it best when they made reference to "Media Manager" as a "free program" Wow, what a disappointment. Some executive should be red faced.
To Koolkatt, I'll be the one person with success for you.
For what it's worth, I've had pretty good sucess streaming video to my 6416 using Windows XP x64. With the bitrate set to High, the video was clear and and I could fast forward (jump 1/10th of the length) and rewind .mpgs and .avis, but the avi's will lock up every so often. The codecs that worked best were XVID with MP3 audio, and mpeg4s. As stated by others, not the quality of my Xbox, but acceptable. Now that being said. I Installed Windows 7 Pro 64 on a dual boot and The streaming quality is TERRIBLE!!!!! It's completely pixelated and locks up on every video. i couldn't begin to tell you what the difference in implementation between operating systems is (and I bet hardly anyone at VZ could either). But I believe it's a Windows Vista/7 problem. As for the fix I don't know. I'm going to try to uninstall and reinstall Media Manager but I'm doubtful.
Just thought I'd let you know my experience with it.
I think this is a similar issue if not the exact same issue as some of the posts from over a year ago...
I have a Windows7 64-bit machine which is to be my media server. It is running the latest MM software. My multi-room DVR is also updated. I have spent several hours on live chat with support where I gave them control of the PC and we've uninstalled and reinstalled the software, rebooted, run all the updates, checked ping rates, verified router and firewall configurations, turned all firewalls off etc...
They eventually said I needed a new rounter - new router has been installed and configured as they suggested
I still have the problem...
I can see the PC from the DVR. I can play music, photos, and internet videos from both YouTube.com and Veoh.com
I can play exactly 1 video (any video - your sample, the windows sample, a downloaded WMV file, whatever) stored on the PC. After playing that video, all subsequent attempts to play a video time out. If I restart MM on the PC I can again play one video (any video) and then all subsequent attempts time out.
I have plugged a Windows Vista PC in to the exact same Ethernet port and connected to it from the DVR. It will play multiple videos without issue. The Vista PC is not nearly as powerful and has less than 1/2 the memory of the Winows7 64bit PC.
Is this a known issue with Windows 64-bit?
Thanks for any input,
Brian
mine does that now. just started. one video then nothing else until i restart MM
Does media manager support M2TS/AVCHD video files? If not, any idea when this will happen. It is the standard on most Sony and Panasonic HD video recorders...and now many streaming services/apps support their playback as well. I cannot get Media Manager to do so.
Same issue as most others. Playback works fine for 1 video stored on my pc then nothing but timeouts thereafter until I restart Media Manager.
Windows 7 64bit.
Playback issues here too... Choppy playback..... sometimes after watching for 30+ mins the video will start playing normally, not always though.
9100EM router, Win 7 64bit, 8GB ram, quad core AMD Black edition 3.0Ghz.
When I start a video stream to one of the STBs, I see about 30% cpu utilization per core and 5% utilization on the network interface. I'm hardwired into the router too.. So I don't think it's my PC not keeping up.
Any hope for an update to fix this?
How about adding some GPU acceleration or something?
