Outage in Northern VA ?

The storm last night must have done some damage. I am not getting many programs on FIOS as well as the phone line is down. My cell phone does not have any bars as well. Good thing the FIOS internet is working. Anyone else experiencing these problems?

The support from Verizon is not good at all. I have been trying to email, call, talk to a so call live agent for the last 6 hours.

If there is an issue in the area then Verizon needs to let us know in some type of message. I.E.. Email us and explain.

I have been with FIOS for 6 years and cell phone for over 10. After my contract is up and I leaving and finding another company who cares about their customer. This is not the first for me and many and I am saying many customer has said the same.

NOT HAPPY BUT WILL BE WHEN I LEAVE THEM.

Does any one have a clue when I will be able to talk on the phone or watch the US open? I think the lack of communication from Verizon has been amazingly horrible.

We have had FIOS TV and internet since the power returned @ 5:00 am this mroning. Had phone briefly, then gone. As of now, still no phone. Wireless was spotty for a while to, we are still having issue dialing locally (cell to cell).

For anyone else still in the same boat, FiOS TV service was restored to us (in Dale City, VA) close to 12:30 PM but we're still without FiOS Digital Phone service. Anyone else in Prince William County get their phone service back yet? Also, are there any standard steps I should be taking to hasten "landline" restoration or is this just a "sit and wait" process like the TV service restoration was?

If it helps anyone, it's not just fios phone service affected. I cannot call anyone on a landline via my blackberry either. I did get thru with the bb to another a friends cell. Basically I think the massive power outages have affected switching stations and probably some cell towers.

Has ANYONE from Verizon issued any sort of "we're working as diligently as possible please be patient" etc type statement? Or anything with a possible timeframe for various service restoration? I realize that in the midst of a problem it is not the most expedient thing to do to contact your customers, but it sure as ***** would be appreciated.

Sterling, VA - No DSL internet. Have power. Can only make certain outbound and receive certain inbound calls on copper. DSL connects but internet says down. I have 2 phone lines and both are limited.

8:40 PM and still no landline nor TV in Occoquan. Internet was never out and cell service came back around 2pm.

My Verizon is down in Oak Hill. It would seem that Verizon is acting as if there is no problem. Can we please get some word on what is wrong and and estimate for when it will be fixed

Reston, VA - My landline has been out since approximately 8:30am this morning. I was actually on a call when it went out. I don't understand why my service worked for 9+ hours after the storm then suddenly went out. I have been trying to get info on the verizon website all day. Now I can't even access the residential page, I'm getting an error! My cell (ATT) and cable/internet (Comcast) and power (Dominion) have all continued uninterrupted. NOT a good showing by Verizon!

Everyone should consider voting for some of the share your ideas suggestions that recommend that Verizon reinstitute SYSTEM status pages. Essentially pages to let everyone know where outages are known and how long they expect them to take to repair.

Why is it gonna take until july 7th to restore home phone service - reported outage on Saturday morning- BTW terrible Verizon website for customers reporting outages- should be a designated "button" without all the hassle- was told on saturday no widespread outage issues - However I am learning from others that their home phones are down also - Verizon has my email - and also when we sign into our accoounts and try to report an outage - I screen should pop up saying "OUTAGES IN YOUR AREA" I had to use my neighbors cell phone to call this in because your website would not accept my outage request and it took over 30 minutes of hold time. I will expect a credit for all these days with no home phone service. Very disappointed with Verizons customer service during this most recent outage. Of course as i reported - the winds blows and we lose our home phones - its been that way for the past 10 years .

Hey Verizon - My neighbors with Comcast aren't having the same storm issues that I am. And Comcast actually has a working "System Status" webpage.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why you think that giving your customers no status and treating them like mushrooms is a good thing for your bottom line.

Gives me something to think about when my contract is up in 11 months.

This is an update for anyone in a similar area as mine (Dale City, VA, which would probably include Prince William County on some stretch). Now 26 hours without phone service (landline). TV was restored yesterday, internet never went down. Now upon doing an attempt at accessing the Online Phone Support this morning I discovered a Repair/Support ticket had been opened for me yesterday at 5:49 PM in regards to my phone outage. The estimated time of resolvement is July 3, before 9:00 PM. I did not personally open this ticket, as my only contact with Verizon since all this started was with an online chat represenative, and then supervisor (yesterday at approximately 10:30 AM). I made them aware of my outage, but their response was general and never specific to me. Maybe in the end this trickled down to getting a ticket started, or maybe Verizon is actually now "aware" of how many customers are still suffering outages and are beginning to systematically try and get the issues resolved. We will see.

Well, I was finally able to contact someone on the Verizon Live Chat. All the info I got was the old "there is an outage in your area and the network team is working on it. We will fix this issue withing 24 hours." I then asked if that was a firm and honest time frame and I never received a reply. However, a trouble ticket was opened on my home phone number with a due date of 3 July. I'll believe it when I hear a dial tone. This has been a totally frustrating experience -- no info from Verizon and they couldn't care less about their customers.

Sterling, VA - update - Called support line from cell since cannot from copper landline. On hold for 30 mins. Nice Indian getleman walked me through his script since the recording still only says Manassass and Arlington have internet issues. I started by saying I am in neither area and just wanted to know if my area is affected. Did all the script actions. Finally I said no more and he called the Network folks who told him there are 5000 people affected and it would be 24-48 hours. So they don't update the message or update their folks on the areas affected. So still no internet and limited calling in and out on copper landlines... I am happy I use OTA for TV...

If you go to the FIOS Facebook page, you will see lots of posts from frustrated customers with no service. Verizon's latest tactic is to answer each posting by inviting the customer to message them directly so they can "look into it" and "answer" the concern. The only problem is they are not replying to the messages. It's just a ***** to get folks to stop publicly complaining about Verizon.

An alert in case you haven't checked to see whether you can RECEIVE phone call on your land line.. We live in Reston. TV was out for several hours on Saturday but returned in early afternoon and we thought everything was okay. We had no trouble making phone calls. Then this morning we received an email from someone who had tried to call us and got a message that the call "cannot be completed at this time." Used a cell phone to call our house phone and discovered that although we can call out, we cannot receive calls.

My battery backup replace battery light is on but its system status light is green. I opened up the customer access portion of the ONT and found that the the power light is off. I am hoping this is because the Fios network is down but that doesn't make much sense. I would think the box could have power even if the system is down. Anyone else checked the ONT?

My phone has also been out since yesterday, although the TV and Internet are working. I haven't had any luck finding a solution. If anyone else has, I would appreciate it the info.

Central Fairfax.

Landline cannot receive. Message is all circuits busy when you call it. Can't call out, except to my wife's in-home office number. All other calls, including long distance, result in busy signal. Occaisoonal total phone line outage, including FIOS internet. Mostly OK on internet and TV. No mobile in neighborhood (CREDO on Sprint network). Was able to get signal in Fairfax City.

As usual, no transparency from Verizon.

Would be nice if Verizon monitored these boards and posted respone to posters.

I am in Arlington. No dial tone at phone, TV/Internet are fine. I plugged a phone into test outlet in the outside FIOS box (ONT). No dial tone at the box. I have fixed storm related problems in the past with Internet/TV by powering down and rebooting the ONT but I am hesitant to do it a second time this time because TV and Internet are working. I can live without the phone, but need the Internet/TV fix.

You may already know this but many storm related outages can be fixed by powering down/rebooting the ONT. Uplug the power cord inside the house. Unplug the battery. Wait about a minute, Plug the battery back in. Plug the power cord in. Check the status of all the lights in the ONT. You must unplug the battery to do this procedure, otherwise the power is never completely turned off/on and thus the ONT does not do a reboot.

For this storm the reboot got all my ONT lights to show normal with Internet and TV working, but there still is no dial tone at the test phone jack in the ONT.

I've been experiencing the same phone issues. I rebooted my ONT following all instructions and still no dial tone. TV and Internet have been fine since we got power back last night (6/30 11pm).

Can't give verizon some time? If something like this happens, I wait atleast 24 hours before I start calling my ISP. The devastation from storms was VERY widespread.

There were close to 500,000 customers without power in VA last time I checked and some of the verizon central offices were losing power last night too.

The storm knocked out everything at around 10pm eastern Friday night, Everything returned around 1pm eastern Saturday afternoon. At approximately 1pm eastern today my power flickers off and everything comes back on. I turn on my Fios TV and it says I'm not subscribed to any channels. I cant watch television now but everything else works, Any idea on when the issue will be fixed.

Was up until 1am trying to get the STB's to subscribe to 1 TV station to no avail. I should have checked this forum. Call the on-screen number only to get a "Can't complete this call". Hope they fix this soon.

Springfield VA, same problem with no channels being subscribed. No Internet either.

Phone service is working and cell coverage is up/down, very spotty.

Considering there are still some people in the DC area that will not have any electricity until later this week, I'm grateful that we have power. But no TV and Internet makes two grumpy kids!

I'm in Springfield, and my FiOs Internet went down Saturday night around 10:30pm. They told me sunday morning, it was part of the outtage. No update. My TVs work fine, I think its cuz i have TiVo STBs. No word when internet would be restored.

I can make local (703) calls on my landline phone, but no long distance or 1-800 calls which result in a busy signal. Is anyone else having this same problem? I'm assuming it's storm-related as it started over the weekend.

Lack of network and phone status information on the Verizon home page makes many more people try to call the support lines which overwhelms the system. This would be a simple way to increase customer satisfaction, reduce wait time and phone usage, as well as allow more time for Verizon employees to help those they can.

It would appear that today they are having trouble handling the call volume. My land line (FIOS) works intermittently both incoming and outgoing. Maybe diminished capacity + high volume = poor signal service. A statement to the various news outlets in our area would help too. I would hate to think that a 911 call can't get through because 500,000 people are trying to reach support because of lack of communication on Verizons part. Their web page and facebook page should have their current status big and bold. The first thing you see in an emergency situation like this. Or at least a prominent "Network Status" link. If I know you are aware of my problem and are working on it I will not tie up your lines trying to figure that out!

Interestingly, my elderly mother who has the Cox bundle has electricity since last night but still no phone. Internet chat with Cox reveals that they are aware of her problem and are fixing it as fast as they can. This is all I needed to know in order to decide whether to travel to her home and start resetting phones, or call support. This took maybe 2 minutes to figure out. I was unable to call their phone support because my Verizon phone could not get a signal out... "all lines are busy" message this time.

This speedy response and availability of the Cox rep has convinced me that maybe Verizon is not worth the trouble.

My grandmother and I are both in Reston. We can call some numbers from the landline, but others get the busy signal, or "circuits are busy." Calling my mobile # from the landline was getting the busy signal until late Sunday. DSL does not connect to the internet at all. Would be really nice to get an update about restoring the service from somebody.....

Last month a server in my area (southeastern PA) went down. FIOS TV was fine but could only get verizon's web site and the weather channel on the internet. There was never any announcement on their website or the FIOS TV system. I called and was on hold for 45 minutes before someone finally came on and said that the server was down.

I don't get why Verizon keeps everyone in the dark (no pun intended) about the outages.

Sterling VA - update - we got internet back Monday evening. Up and down it went a few times and then stayed up. This is a big plus since I work from home. Had to work elsewhere on Monday. I did finally get an utomated call Monday afternoon telling me there were issues and that I would get another call when restored but so far no other call. 3 full days for me. Could not even use work dial up number since the phones would not do toll numbers until Monday evening. Very happy that it is back up!

I have FIOS Internet/TV/Voice in Fairfax Co. VA. When the power when off on Friday night, the first thing I did was pick up the phone to report the power outage. The phone worked then, but by Saturday morning I had no dial tone.

On Saturday morning, I got my generator running and plugged in the FIOS battery backup and the Actiontec router. I was able to access the internet (I didn't try the TV), but even though my battery back up was on generator power, I still had no dial tone.

This condition persisted through Saturday (6/30) and through most of Sunday (7/1), in fact, it didn't change after the power was restored on Sunday.

Even after the dial tone returned on Sunday afternoon, I was unable to make calls (I received a "lines busy" signal) and some incoming calls weren't received (the callers switched to my cell phone).

Verizon needs to do an analysis of what backups are needed for FIOS digital voice service. I would suggest that something need to be upgraded or changed, because it was apparent that a backup power supply on my end (the generator) was of no use to keep my landline phone service going.

Also, Verizon should use the existing customer email addresses on record to send out updates or notices regarding interruptions of service. Of course, since Verizon wasn't providing much information to the media or to local government officials regarding the 911 outage, I guess I shouldn't expect too much as a customer.

All my services, phone, Internet, and cable have been dead since last Friday evening. Verizon phone calls have resulted in automated answers which transfer to hold for live person, and then hang up after several minutes. Thank God I have an I-pad and Barnes and noble has free Internet. I am 2 hours from filing a complain with the Maryland Public Utilities Commission.
