It's Dec 7 and Verizon just notified us via email that Bloomberg TV (ch 604) would be dropped. on Dec 8!
I like this station and it is not the same as their mobile offerings. I am disturbed that Verizon is reducing my service
I just received email informing of the above change...you must be kidding!!! Bloomberg TV has some of the best quality business, technology and other news content available. I watch Bloomberg TV live on various TVs throughout my house for hours every day, and to have to mess around with an app that only easily permits viewing on small iPad/ computer screens is ridiculous. I pay Verizon so I can access good content, and if you need to pay Bloomberg some reasonable price to access content so be it. You guys need to rethink/ reverse this.
Agreed, this is a terrible decision. What is more, the message from Verizon implies the problem is Bloomberg has a free livestream online. The Verizon telling networks they can't offer a free livestream and still be part of the Verizon channel line up?
Agree completely.
I am appalled that we are losing Bloomberg because verizon doesn't want to pay for its content. Really? I don't want sports and yet I have to a huge fee every month for a bunch of football and other games which I never watch and yet one of the best news channels is being cancelled. You are appallling. Why don't you start asking your clients what we want to watch and give us some choices.
an inordinate amount of my time in front of the t.v. screen is allotted to watching bloomberg. i seriously doubt i will be renewing my service contract if this station is dropped.
A few years ago, Verizon dropped the Weather Channel. We live in the Northeast, and this forced us to begin watching the weather channel online. Now, they are dropping Bloombeg, one of our favorite networks. I just renewed with FIOS, but I soon will make a different decision. Forcing me to stream my content online is only showing me how easy and affordable that is and is leading me to choose one of the many options besides cable
This is a deal breaker for us. We will definitely be leaving the FIOS family. The one day notice was particularly bad. FIOS gave its customers no chance to provide feedback before making this unfortunate decision. Time to buy stock in Cablevision. Cut the sports and let us keep Bloomberg.
This appears to be a NY area only issue.
I ahve not received an email about Bloomberg being dropped.
As for sports, you can choose pacakages that don't have sports to avoid those fees.
We all have to pay for channels that are part of our package we don't want or watch.
Verizon makes these choices (like they did with Weather channel) based on their costs and the amount of people that watch.
To tell you the truth, I didn't even realize we had Bloomberg.
And it may be the same with channels I watch and you don't.
I am very unhappy that FIOS is dropping Bloomberg News. It is one of the few unbiased sources of news available on Fios. Would rather see you drop some of those fake news channels that are nothing more than propaganda machines for Trump and his followers.
Bloomberg is literally the only channel I watch daily. Removing the weather channel was aggravating, but this is unacceptable.
So, do I make the switch to Comcast, save about 50-60 dollars a month by doing so, and deal with all the hassle of the service migration or do I drop the tv component from Fios only, still keep the Internet access, and just stream? The latter is surely more convenient, but wow, I’m so tired of paying for the most expensive product on the market that constantly gives me less than the competition. They know how sticky their business model is. To know I spend more than 6k a year with them between Fios and mobile phone service is troubling.
You go a high-priced restaurant and order a nice steak with some sides. Just as you begin to dig into that steak a waiter comes by your table telling you their meat purveyor has raised the price of steak. Without any apology, shame, or compensation, he removes the steak from your plate, leaving you just the side dishes. What?
WHAT KIIND OF BUSINESS WOULD EVER TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS?
Whatever costs Verizon pays for programming or what profits they do or don't make has no bearing on what I order and pay for each month. You know there once was a thing called INTEGRITY, yeah, keeping your word no matter the cost. Guess it doesn't mean much in Verizon's world.
And I don't even watch that much TV, but Bloomberg was my filet mignon and now it's gone.
Thanks Verizon.
(Yeah, I know, this will all blow over in a week or so)
As soon as I can find an alternate provider who carries Bloomberg I am leaving Verizon. You have removed one of the best news programs on TV. Shame on you and. Make a deal with Bloomberg or I am out of here.
{edited for privacy}
Verizon is clealy LYING I can not download an app and receive Bloomberg for Free.
Now I have to dump them and subscribe to Comcast.
What a useless company Verizon.
Dropping Verizon, I use Bloombergs everyday starting at 1:00 AM in order to see the S&P 500 futures, Dow Futures, NASDAQ Futures and VIX Index.
I pay Verizon $150 a month that includes the Bloomberg channel in my lineup.
And Verizon lies and says I can download the same exact content for free on an Android App and that is why they are dropping the Bloomberg Channel.
You leave me no choice but to drop Verizon since I need important info that only Bloomberg TV Provides.
Liars must be running Verizon?
There is no app that gives me this service only Bloomberg TV and I pay you Plenty.
Happy Holidays Comcast!
I can't believe Verizon dropped Bloomberg. Probably the most insightful business news channel in the nation. I just resigned with Verizon for two years, they asked me what channels I watch, I specifically mentioned Bloomberg News. Nobody mentioned it might be going away. I am done with Verizon Fios, I will pay the early exit fee. I am sure Comcast will be happy to take me back. Good Job Verizon, you really know how to keep your customers happy!!
Woke up this morning and didn't have Bloomberg TV. Didn't receive any sort of notification. I usually spend all day with this channel on the backdrop. It has far better programming than many of the other "news" channels out there.
Verizon - please bring this back as soon as possible or we will have to revaluate our service provider.
You're a mean one Mr Grinch
Verizon just shut off Bloombergs TV
A lump of coal for you too!
Verizon - If you are listening to any of this, I wanted to add my name to those who are upset by this. Bloomberg is a great station because it is an actual news station (not those opinion stations that call themselves news -e.g., CNN, FOX, MSNBC, OAN (that one is a hoot to watch)).
Unlike others, I did not receive an e-mail from Verizon yesterday and tuned to Bloomberg to see a norice telling me that "Fios is working". Fios is definitely not working for me when they arbitrarily drop good programming that I watch daily for no valid reason. The fact that the content is available for free on the Internet is irrelevant. Fox News Channel is also streamed live for free but I am pretty confident that Fox is charging Verizon for that.
The only other cable company in my area, Cox, does not carry Bloomberg so I am going to have to watch it on the Internet. Unfortunately, I have recently renewed my contract and the main reason I subscribed to the TV package I did was to get Bloomberg. A contract used to mean providing a certain service in exchange for an agreed fee but Verizon clearly has no intention of doing that. For me this makes Fios TV worth significantly less than it was yesterday and pushes me closer to cutting the cord when my contract expires.
So the fact that the competition in your area doesn't carry it should say something. And when I looked, you can stream live via web browser as well as AppleTv and Roku.
I'm guessing (just like TWC) the number of actual viewers didn't justify the cost.
The live TV broadcast and the live streaming webcast (Android/Apple app, Bloomberg.com) are not even close to being the same thing. The content and quality offered on the TV broadcast is undoubtedly superior. The fact that Verizon stated that the two services are the same only insults the intelligence of anyone who has watched both versions at least one time. I’m sure both companies will reach some sort of an agreement but the abrupt disruption of service and the childish excuse made by Verizon (Verizon’s direct message to its customers) should be taken note of by shareholders as anecdotal evidence of Verizon’s commitment to customer satisfaction.
I am extremely upset that Verizon no longer supports Bloomberg TV - Verizon won't pay for good content? What's that about? I watched bloomberg every morning for around 2 hours. I am very disappointed with my service - bloomberg is an essesntial channel for me.
I totally agree. We pay Verizon a fortune for sports stations we never watch. We watch Bloomberg throughout the day. Time to consider cutting the TV cord!
Verizon's choice to drop Bloomberg makes our decision to change carriers and save a little money for a while all that much easier.
So dropping Bloomberg TV and Weather Channel while adding channels like Newsmax and One America News. Not much reason to stay with Verizon these days. Can't beleive I'm saying this, but Comast is better now. Comcast has both Bloomberg and Weather Channel, and even has a nice remote feature where you can search for shows with a voice command instead of slowly entering in letters one at a time. Verizon and Ajit Pai are trash.
I agree. The online Live TV feed does not have the scrolling news banner on the right of the tv screen, nor does it have the financial banner across the bottom that alternates the current values of the various indices that alternates with the 2 day trend chart. And staring at the little screen is not comparable to watching on the TV. If the TV is on in the background, one can catch a story that interests, rather than having to be staring at one's phone all day in case something of interest occurs. The content and depth of this channel is not matched by any other alternative "like" channels offered. It's the first channel I put on in the morning and view often throughout the day. Please reverse this decision immediately. There are dozens and dozens of channels of little or no value in your offering, cut them if you are looking to reduce costs and keep this one whose value is unmatched. And for verizon to suggest what amounts to cutting the cord seems to be not in their own best interest. Is this the first salvo fired in the net neutrality discussion ??
I totally agree...I taped most of my Bloomberg shows to watch whenever I was available. Streaming does not offer that...there are many quality shows on Bloomberg that many viewers will miss.
What about the dollars we are paying for our packages...what will be added back or how will a credit work...we choose our packages based on channels offered not on channels lost.
About all you can say for FIOS is that it's hardware is reliable. Removing Bloomberg TV and keeping Newsmax is pretty lame. Also dropping HD for CNBC not good. Fortunately there are not many areas where FIOS is the only provider of TV, Internet, and Phone. Comcast sales person visited on Tuesday offering $ for me to come back. Comcast channel guide lists Bloomberg, CNBC, and Weather Channel in HD.
Since Cable/satellite TV is the prime outlet for all TV stations, why is it that we pay FIOS (or Comcast) and they pay the network for content? Should not the broadcasters pay FIOS and other cable companies so that we will watch the content as well as advertising they sell? But maybe FIOS would just like to sell internet and phone and not have the hassle of FIOS TV.
Verizon needs to rethink this decision. Without a doubt Bloomberg is one of the best channels available on fios. Could be a deal breaker for me. What were the exec's thinking? Sometimes you have to give a little to keep your customers happy. Bring back Bloomberg TV.
Start watching Bloomberg. You will learn lots!
Isn't Bloomberg a bsuiness channel?
Verizon is making a business decision just like they did for TWC.
They have to consider what their costs are (keep in mind they pay a fee for every subscriber that has a channel in their package whether they watch it or not as well as there are fixed costs to connect and carry the channel) and look at the number of sunscribers who actually watch.
Then make the decision of how much they may lose if the drop and some subscribers leave.
And also take in to account that a large number of subscribers have fixed pricing. So if they accept too many increased charges before they can increase subscriber rates, they can lose money. So even though they may save money when they drop a channel, they may be using those savings to offset increased costs on other content.
I agree as well. I enjoy Bloomberg for most of the day. Yes I know I can watch on my computer, however I prefer to watch on my TV. Yes I know I can use an app on my roku to watch some Bloomberg content however then I can't easily go to CNBC during the commercials. I am currently exploring my options on what company to take my $250/month to. What an incredibly stupid move by Verizon. I'll be gone soon, I'm so thankful I'm not in contract.
Comcast has Bloomberg TV and Weather Channel
This is very unfortunate. Please do what it take to get Bloomberg TV back. Deal with the media integration issues in a mature manner rather than having a Verizon temper tantrum, and pulling the plug on your customers. This was a high value channel. Verizon you are wrong on this one.
Xfinity otherwise known as Comcast offers Bloombergs and The Weather Channel as content on three of their packages and for about the same exact price as Verizon.
I just checked it out.
Well I do not have a choice.
I like Bloombergs Business as an indicator in the night market.
Sorry Verizon, I have to walk away at the end of the year and take Comcast.
Same or similar Price and Verizon tells you your bundle is discounted.
Total Nonsense.
Fios did a great mistake by removing Bllomburg channel. i am going to cancel Fios.
Shame on Verizon
Shame on verizon for dropping Bloomburg channel
Verizon does what it want to do. No concern for customers loyalty. Removed bloomburg for profit concern. Time has come to cut cord and move to online
First the weather channel goes, then Univision goes, now Bloomberg, then what? I watched all of these channels. I just renewed and lost Bloomberg. No I’m seeing if Cablevision will take me and I can cancel my renewal. I’m tired of Verizon smug message that I can get free Bloomberg from the Internet. Stupid answer. I paid for Fios because I want the convenience of channel bundles. Plus, I replace all of Fios with TiVo or amazon or many services, why would Fios admit their strategy is dying as the majority of content I get from Fios is available on the Internet. I want to see tv saving when you lower your costs and cut content I like but all I get are weakening channel bundle, higher bills and smug answers from poor negotiators.
So Verizon is dropping Bloomberg because they don't want to pay for content they claim Bloomberg provides for free using other media.
Makes sense in the post fact world we now live in.
So does this mean Verizon will now make the basic tier of service free?
That is the tier that is only the local broadcast stations.
Those are the ones their content providers put out for free over there air.
I don't think so.
PS does it also mean Verizon will lower Everyone's rates lower because of yet another dropped station.. Again, I don't think so!
Sounds like the Verizon shill pushing the "New and Improved" Net Neutrality laws. Are working out exactly as planned.
The rules aren't even official yet and Verizon is already strong-arming a provider and ultimately having the consumers.
Sure, it's not the exact way envisioned by apponents of the new Net neutrality laws.
But the effects are the same.
Instead of charging the provider more for their content to be promoted. They are coming at it from another angle. Want us to provide your content. Give it to us Free!
Only in Trump's America. God help is all
Wrong.
Everybody, at least in the North East must pay the Comcast sports fee to Verizon.
Regardless of the package you choose.
The biggest joke of that tax / fee / extortion. Is, even if you get your TV through Comcast / Xfinity, you still have to pay it!
@Shellyg37 wrote: Wrong. Everybody, at least in the North East must pay the Comcast sports fee to Verizon. Regardless of the package you choose. The biggest joke of that tax / fee / extortion. Is, even if you get your TV through Comcast / Xfinity, you still have to pay it!
You only pay that fee if you have sports channels.
Verizon does offer packages that do not have sports channels and therefore, you would not pay the fee.
Too bad I just found out about this. Should have stayed with Optimum. BAD decision by Verizon FIOS as usual. But hey, no reduction in your bill. #Crooked
In this case, there were no cost savings.
Verizon notice stated that Blomberg wanted to start charging for content they are offering to Internet for free.
Don't know if they are requiring same for other providers at this time or if it was just Verizon's time as their contract was up. Time will tell.
This is also a deal breaker for us. Many of the channels that my husband watches have been dropped and Bloomberg leaving is the icing on the cake. We pay a crazy amount of $ and Fios doesn't want to offer lower pricing to it's existing customers.
We received no notice of the channel being dropped and no one at Verizon cares what channels I want or that as an existing customer I want a fair price.
Leaving as soon as I can line up Comcast, will pay the early termination fee.
Why would they do this? I'm a stock trader and investor and I need Bloomberg. I'll have to switch to Cox or Comcast-I have no choice. Hey Verizon, I don't want to pour a cup of coffee and watch Bloomberg on my phone-that's **bleep**. That's why I pay an outrageous amount to have cable. Guess it will be Cox cable. Nice knowing you. May as well switch my Verizonn wireless to AT&T while I'm at it.
Now both channels are gone. Me next Bye, Bye FIOS. Hello Comcast. Hopefully my internet will be faster with Comcast! FIOS sucks.
This has seriously got me thinking of dropping Fios TV and Phone. I think I can do better with ROKU or something similar where I can choose the channels I want. Probably save some dollars.
Dropping a popular channel is not making your subscribers happy, hope you rethink this decision.
I was reading about the many other net vendors that offer Bloomberg TV with the content streaming below we all so desperately need to make our investment decisions.
It is ashame Verizon dropped Bloomberg TV just in time for Christmas.
Well Have a happy NEW Year with your new providers.
totally agree, I'm distrubed by media manipulating the viewing community with rediculious financial excuses. Kill off the only show that has zero bias, great content. Seniors should be flipping out over this. I have a contract, it included a tv listing of channels, now they removed one. I should be able to prorate my tv listings and get a refund.. Just another example of greed in corporate america. fools folly, they will pay when I get an offer that's in my community offering the bloomberg channel.
LET Me see, I pay my cable bill that is over $150.00 month X 12 months = $1,800 year.
AND now right before Christmas and the Stock Market has had the best performance.
I turn on BLOOMBERG TV and see a message that Verizon Cancelled the Channel.
And they make up a story that I can watch it with a link for free.
Problem is the streaming information is not on their link?
Econinomically they appear to be making a Major mistake.
Welcoming my new Cable TV provdier with a Happy 2018 !
Contract is not for a specific set of channels.
Terms of contract allows Verizon (and other providers as well) to add and delete channels at will.
Why should Verizon help bloomberg?
BTW, a quick Google will give you the link to their live feed.
First they dropped the weather channel and now dropping Bloomberg may be the straw that breaks it for me. Bloomberg was one of the *only* non-biased news outlets. Instead there's One America News - give me a break. If there is any doubt how it will be when the politicians kil Net Neutrality - this is all the evidence you need. I'll have to look on the Pennsylvania Utility Commition website to see where I can file a complaint. For those who can get Comcast, Bloomberg is channel 814 - just sayin.
I called and complained. They gave me a $25 credit. I still want Bloomberg (though I gladly took the credit).
Wondering if legally to cancel Verizon for breach on contract by dropping Bloomberg since it was part of the package. Call FCC maybe.
If you mean your contract with Verizon, no.
The terms of service explicitly state that Verizon can add and drop channels as they desire during the life of the contract. There are no guarantees for specific channels. And this is fairly common amongst all providers.
If you think about it, it needs to be that way. Unless they can sync everyones contract dates up, they could never remove a channel or would have to remove it from contracts and then wait up to 2 years for the last people that still had that channel in their contract.
And the same holds true for moving channels in and out of packages.
It was a bad decision by FIOS to drop Bloomberg TV. When my contract with FIOS runs out I will change providers if FIOS does not rethink this decision. Why does Comcast carry Bloomberg if it is such a bad business deal?
This is an important channel for me and one of the few that I watch consistently. Support the people, like me, who are paying these high cable bills to subsidize ESPN and other sport channels.
Bloomberg TV is a true Business information program. As a Verizon stock holder I am deeply disapointed that Verizon would choose to drop a legitiment business content program instead of negotiating a settlement in order to satisfy its customers. So if I read this note on the TV screen where Bloomberg used t be featured. Verizon was previously receiving Bloomberg content for free, but charging us Verizon customers for broad casting the content. Now that Bloomberg wants to charge Verizon, Verizon has chosen to what amounts to breaking its contract with its customers by removing Bloomberg content from the contracted Fios package. Is there a monthly price reduction coming our way? I would love to hear the Verizon spin on that one. Continuing to broadcast CNBC and MSNBC are poor substitutes for the Bloomberg content. I am looking into switching to Comcast and getting rid of Verizon Fios, and that statement is coming from a Verizon stock holder. Listen up Verizon.
It is also in the Philadelphia area. Verizon needs to learn a lot about customer service. I hope the government does not protect them when they are going south. They deserve it

As a stockholder, wouldn't you be concerned about Verizon taking on additional costs while having to delay revenue increases (can't raise rates on those with contracts).
As for number of viewers, Verizon, like most other providers know exactly how many subacribers are watching each channel and for how long. That's how they make nth cost justifications for knowing when to drop or move channels from plans.
And it is allowed under contracts (as it is with most providers)
^^^No - I am not concerned about such things as a stock holder because cutting service(s) aka "cost cutting" is not a viable long-term growth strategy; it does nothing to increase PVGO, which is what really drives valuation. Instead, it is used to meet the Street's quarterly earnings expectations so that executives can hit bonus thresholds and cash-in their ESOs or whatever compensation scheme they have "earned."
Yeah, Bloomberg is great, and no, the "free" version does not cut it as others have pointed out. But on the brightside, thank you Verizon for continuing to provide us with "sophistcated" finance/business offerings such as Fox Business and CNBC.
However, with regards to managing costs, I think that the $/perks Verizon is expensing on PR for its online feedback/discussion forums would be better spent retaining critical content such as Bloomberg TV. And as I sarcastically quipped above, Fox Business and CNBC are not viable alternatives, nor is the "free" version on other platforms.
And finally, why would Verizon want its customers to turn off their Fios boxes and plug into other platforms to watch content it no longer provides? That makes absolutely zero sense. Verizon's goal should be to keep its customers locked into their Fios settop boxes for as long as possible, so that they are exposed to the the maximum amount of opportunities to purchase upgrades and on-demand content. Why was I not offered the chance to pay Verizon for Bloomberg? Does management not understand that the people complaining about the Bloomberg drop have the disposable income to pay them for it?
Poor management all-around. This really was an absurd decision.
Verizo states:
Bloomberg is proposing that we pay for content that they make available to all consumers for free on their website and mobile app
Why are they only taking this stand now with a channel we cannot easily get on our TVs but yet have no problems paying carriage fees for content like CBS - content CBS makes available to all consumers for free over the air?
If Bloomberg is asking for too much VZ be honest and say that. To imply it’s a principle not to pay for something freely available elsewhere is outrageous when the lineup is full of channels in similar scenarios.
