It's Dec 7 and Verizon just notified us via email that Bloomberg TV (ch 604) would be dropped. on Dec 8!
I like this station and it is not the same as their mobile offerings. I am disturbed that Verizon is reducing my service
Truly disappointing. This is one of the highest quality and least biased news productions avaialable anywhere in our country and FIOS "brilliantly" dropped it. I have been contemplating cutting the cord and this may make the decision easier.
I am very disappointed by Verizon dropping Bloomberg. I recently switched from Cox to Verizon because Cox quit offering Bloomberg. Are there any cable tv services which do offer Bloomberg in DC area? I may have to switch to one of them. I wish Verizon would reconsider its decision.

Check their website.
Plus you can stream their channel for free.
I agree. Dropping Bloomberg TV is one of the worst and most short-sighted decisions ever. CNBC or Fox Business can't approach the seriousness or depth of Bloomberg's global insightful coverage. I am seriously considering dropping Verizon and goign back to Comcast. VERIZON: BRING BACK MY BLOOMBERG TV PLEASE
PLEASE READ:
For anyone suggesting that Bloomberg viewers just watch the internet streaming content... The TV broadcast and the internet webcast ARE NOT the same.
The difference between the two are obvious and vast. The fact that Verizon stated that they are the same is an absolute lie. Watch both versions, if possible, before making comments.

Not sure why but Bloomberg has made it almost impossible to find out who is carrying them on their website. Probably there is a working page somewhere, but I couldnt locate it.
I just want to say we are disappointed with dropping this channel and the way it was done. An email saying we are dropping a channel tomorrow shows lack of respect for your customers. We are paying a lot and keep losing channels. Accuweather has never improved enough to be as good as TWC when there is a storm. Bloomberg is a good channel to have for alternative views and information if you want to change from CNBC or Fox Business. We are paying a lot for TV service, and telling us to go to a computer for Bloomberg is not a good answer. The more you do this, the more we will consider moving to Optimum.
The decision to drop Bloomberg is outrageous. It is one of the few channels I actually watch. I couldn't believe they dropped the Weather Channel but dropping Bloomberg is actually worse. Don't plan to renew my contract next time.
I am very upset about the sudden decison by Verizon to drop Bloomberg from the line up with only one day notice. If they do not bring Bloomberg back I am heading back to Comcast...even if I have to pay a contract cancellation fee!
with news facts and reporting under partisan attack we need facts like Bloomberg more than ever.
restore Bloomberg
this is not a business decision. it is about responsibility in programming
thanks
Please bring back Bloomberg! I pay big money for my Verizon TV package and it's one of the only stations I watch. Stop the nickel and dime crap.
Yup. This is ridiculous, especially for the reason they are citing. Doesn't matter if Bloomberg is free to people on apps or not. If you Verizon makes money from broadcasting this "free" stuff, you need to pay. It is that simple. Plus, people can watch local channels with antenan for free too. Does Verizon pay those local channels in order to have them on its network. I believe it does.
I watch Bloomberg everyday. Without it, I will drop TV subscription next time I renew.
Bring back Bloomberg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Streaming is no substitute, people love it, people appreaciate it!
No verizon the Bloomberg content is not available for free on apps or internet.
Those options dont provide the important crawler at bottom of tv screen on market condition or the text of news stories on the right side of screen
fios you have removed content that is valuable and sorely missed. Yet you still charge me the same amount Been with fios fir 15+ years and will have to go to comcast as a result of this action
Bloomberg is also one of the very few channels I watch regularly. That, Fox, ESPN, BTN and local channels. I've never watched the free HBO I got when renewing, nor the Showtime offering. It's not that I like Bloomberg's increasingly vocal liberal bias, but they do discuss business and economic news somewhat rationally, which is more than can be said for its competitors. And I see no reason not to pay for Bloomberg content if Verizon pays for local content. There's no other option available in my area since Cox doesn't carry it. The only possibility is to watch online, which I can't do and eat breakfast, lunch or dinner at the same time, or invest in a Roku stick. That's not likely to work, either, because I almost never get the Internet speeds I'm supposed to be getting, (and it's not my network). Plus I deplore the officious manner in which Verizon deals with these issues. I can tell you NOBODY is going to watch Verizon content exclusively, so they'd better give up dreams of becoming the next Disney, or whatever, and give us back the Internet we intially came to them for.
Bloomberg TV is quality programming and to put it simply for ~$160 per month I absolutely expect to have this channel. This is good motivation to switch over to Cablevision.
It is time that Verizon and similar offer an a la carte business model for TV. If cost-cutting is the reason for the loss of this channel I expect one of two things to happen:
1) My bill to decrease
2) To be given the ability to highly customize my selection of channels to keep the ones I desire as an individual consumer, priced algorithmically
The one-size-fits-all method of delivering TV is dying and an opportunity is presented to Verizon to either adapt or see more users pull the plug completely.
This is utterly ridiculous that Verizon which is the most expensive of all the cable companies is not carrying Bloomberg. I pay for premium service and I should get it. Verizon is cutting services but not cutting the price. When it comes time
to renew I will think about going back to cable vision.
Absolutely outrageous. Verizon has gone too far. New Yorkers will not stand for dropping Bloomberg nor do we buy the **bleep** excuse given. Verizon, you are out as soon as I find a replacement. Bye!
Absolutely agree, this was a horrible decision. I DVR it, and it's one reason I leave my TV on in the morning. It's the single most serious business news channel around (don't even talk about CNBC's frat-boys).
Seriously, I would gladly pay more for that channel alone. Instead, I'm forced to pay for mountains of Barney Fife, hoarder scavengers, boatloads of sports I never watch – and Verizon has the nerve to tell me they're doing this to save me money?
Give me a break! Better yet, it reminds me of how far superior Comcast's user interface is. Hmmm...
All of the cable companies would love to offer a la carte.
It is the content providers that won't allow it.They bundle channels together. So if you want the popular ones, you have to take the less popular ones as well.
And the contracts control what package levels channels are in as well.
That is why you might see a channel in a basic package, but not an intermediate one.
Verizon (like others I am sure) always have to manage costs vs revenue.
Have to imagine that they didn't resign Univision for no increase in cost.
Yet our cost can't go up because we have contracts.
Univision may not be content you watch.
But companies like Verizon have to look at viewership vs cost.
And I am guessing that that ratio for Bloomberg just didn't pass muster.
Does this constitue a breach of their contract with the customer? I paid for said channels and they remove them yet my fee stay's the same. I will investigate and let everyone know. First the Weather channel which is just plain stupid if they think accu weather holds a candle to anything. My local weather is better than they are and now Bloomberg. Either way I will also be leaving Fios as soon as I decide which company to go with.
Please reverse this decision. Otherwise you will lose serious-minded business people who care about unbiased news and straight forward reporting.
Here is the section of terms of service that covers this:
Subject to applicable law, we reserve the right to change, rearrange, add, delete or otherwise modify the Service at any time, with or without prior notice to you, including changing, rearranging or otherwise modifying our Programming packages, the selections available in those packages, the Equipment, any Other Devices, and any other features, products and services that we offer. Verizon or its suppliers may, without notice or liability, restrict the use of any Services or limit its time of availability in order to perform maintenance activities and to maintain security. Not all services may be available in all areas.
And I understand this is similar to other cable providers.
I also and upset about dropping Bloomberg. That was one of my favorite morning shows! Even gave me good information about keeping hold of my Verizon stock. I will have to rethink continuing my Fios service. Bring back Bloomberg!
This is appalling. I can't belive fios charges me extra for news channel lineup but are unwilling to pay for news channel content. Why am I being charged for free content? Please reduce my bill based on I shouldn't be getting chaged for content that is free at other locations.
Since I am one of those in an area sold by Verizon to Frontier, I thought I'd mention that at least for now Frontier FIOS continues to carry Bloomberg.
You can get it for free online or through a Roku! Why pay for a channel when it is available for FREE!
Bring back Bloomberg TV!! My contract is up next month and I'm in the process of choosing a new provider if Bloomberg TV is not back before my contract ends.
Restore Bloomberg!
Hate the tv app. Can't consistently get the live stream, and am missing the white bar with news stories on right.
Wont stick with Fios if I can't get Bloomberg. You give me 100 channels that I will never use, while taking away the channel I watch most. Bad form, bad deal.
Just by the number of protest registered here on this site is a clear demonstration that Bloomberg viewership is more than thought. I believe the real reason for Verizon dropping Bloomberg is the cost. However, we were alreading paying Verizon for the bloolberg content when obviously Bloomber was getting it for free or a minimal cost. Bloomber on the computer is not the same as the TV as it does not have the relatimg streaming banners. Shame on Verizon for having their head stuck in a very dark place.
Please reverse this terrible decision. With all the reality nonsense on TV and you removed the only educated investment channel. I don’t understand the logic and hoping for a reversal ASAP.
By dropping the Bloomberg TV channel Verizon is giving me another reason to cut the cord. Bloomberg provides an unbiased business-centric view of world events and represents a great alternative to the "talking head" channels that we are now left with. There is no other similar option. CNN, Fox, MSNBC, etc all have websites and streaming but Verizon doesn't cancel those channels. Are we to assume those channels don't charge Verizon to broadcast their content? What the heck are we paying for and why as the customer Verizon so publically state they support and want to make happy not give us an opportunity to voice our desire to keep the channel? And if you try to contact Verizon to voice your concerns good luck finding a real human to talk to. They think having this forum is a sufficient alternative to contacting them direct; obviously they do everything they can to not hear from us unless they want our money. I have a bad taste in my mouth again because of Verizon. Time to cut the cord!
I agree with everyone in this forum. I switched from Time Warner to Fios before they dropped Bloomberg, and they are not offering any refund, despite this being the channel my husband and I watch 75% of the time. Shame on you Verizon for not living up to your end of the contract! And yes, by telling me to go online to watch Bloomberg, you are also clueing me in to how little I actually need Fios, I can hear me cutting that Fios cord very soon if I do not have my Bloomberg back. So stupid.
This is the last straw for me, Fios. I have been struggling with your constantly increasing bills and reducing service, but this is one I cannot live without. Big Mistake for me Verizon!
Well it sounds like the Bloomberg outage must be temporary. I just cut out the Ultimate and went down to Custom home package saving $35 per month and the Bloomberg outage was a big reason -- it was 75% of what I watched and it being out triggered the question - why do I need all this stuff I don't watch. But all of the FIOS advertising, package listings, etc. are still saying FIOS are carring Bloomberg. Can't believe they would continue to advertise Bloomberg for a couple of months and not intend to bring it back. I never got any announcement that they are ending Bloomberg, at least that I can recall. It is still showing on the channel listing and you click on the channel - you get a note suggesting FIOS is just in a dispute with Bloomberg.
I also want to clarify what I think is happening based upon their notice, which states: "Bloomberg is proposing that we pay for content that they make available to all consumers for free on their website and mobile app." I don't think this is saying that Bloomberg is asking for new money, as some above seem to have suggested. What I think is happening is that what is new is the free content elsewhere, and FIOS is objecting to Bloomberg providing the free content elsewhere, and FIOS is suggesting that it would be willing to continue to pay Bloomberg for content if Bloomberg stopped providing the free content. So in their contract dispute with Bloomberg, what FIOS maybe wants to do is force Bloomberg to get paid less because Bloomberg is doing something competitive with FIOS that FIOS does not like. This is what competitors often like to do with each other - lessen the competition. But as I mentioned, FIOS is still advertising that they carry the Bloomberg and the only way you get to the information that they are not doing so is when you click on the channel button.
And based on the note, if Bloomberg were to put a FIOS toll booth sign on the Bloomberg website - something like the password/username combination you use to get into HBOGO and the other premium channels, FIOS probably would be more than happy. Bloomberg would not then be competing, because you need to be subscribing to FIOS (or another cable provider) to get that content. My impression is that it is all about the free content being provided.
We could all care less what your reasons are for not including Bloomberg and The WeatherChannel on Fios. Spare us the details. It's your resonsibility to work out a deal- Direct TV and Spectrum did. Oh, that's right-you see the truth clearer than they do.
Get the channels on air-the fact that they aren't is your problem, not ours. Much more of this crap, and I'm gonna go elsewhere! How about taking off another channel and make sure you tell us why you're right.
I believe Verizon dropped it and are not negotiating done deal. I hope they lose a lot of subscribers. As a shareholder I don't like saying that but they don't seem to care about providing a top notch cable service.
As a shareholder don't you want FiOS to be as profitable as possible?
I would expect that before dropping a channel, Verizon does a profit/loss analysis to determine how reduction in content will affect income.
How much are you willing to pay when people can get content for free?
DirectTV Now has Bloomberg with a bunch of live TV content & I signed up for it as it is pretty inexpensive. Unfortunately DirectTV doesn't seem to work with a Google Chrome installation, so I cancelled it. Now on to a couple of other options - (1) pressing Tivo to add Bloomberg as an independent option (we use Tivo); and (2) Sling TV, which has Bloomberg. If either of these works, then we can try to downgrade some more of the Fios programming (already downgraded the Ultimate package, prompted by the Bloomberg problems).
Verizon's dropping Bloomberg TV is a problem is stoooopid on their part. There's no substitute for it and its scrolling sidebar during the workday and for technology investing news. It was a gotta-have prerequisite TV requirement for me when I came to FiOS and it still is.So it is just a matter of time before I leave Verizon and move to Comcast or Direct TV. And then I'll be pulled to Comcast's mobile phone service and hotspots. Guess what, Verizon -- you're gonna lose over $4,000 a year just because you made me look at my bills and options. I'll take my time because I'm busy with other things right now, but the clock is ticking. Even if you brought Bloomberg TV back (as a premium channel if necessary) you're gonna loose thousands one way or another (e.g., Ooma) just because you made me look!
I did a little research and I think I have found that Roku has an Bloomberg TV app that you can stream in Bloomberg TV free to the TV through a Roku hooked up to an HDMI port. So I disconnected the FIOS DVR (not using it anyway, given the superior Tivo connection) and hooked up the old Roku - turns out I need a new Roku since my old old Roku won't accept update to new channels. Have purchased the new 2017 Roku ultra for $90 and picking it up tomorrow. I'll post here if I can get the Bloomberg free piped to my TV through my new Roku Ultra.
Then I said to myself - why not now delete the FIOS DVR rental and corresponding fee from my bill. But the "my account" is not giving me an option to delete the DVR except at a slightly higher monthly price. What gives with that? Paying a monthly rental fee for a box that is now going to sit unused in the basement? Has anyone "cracked the code" of deleting that last FIOS DVR box?
I'm not sure that online they will allow you to have a tv package without either a cable card or stb. Probably aren't set up for people that would be ok with watching everything via apps vs using a STB.
May have to call customer services directly to do so. And I wouldn't be surprised if they can't do it either.Would suck, but you can probably save a couple of bucks by "renting" a cable card instead of STB.
Thanks - well I have no problem keeping the cable card rental; I guess I did not make it clear that I already rent the cable card in order to hook in the Tivo Roamio device. What I don't need is both the FIOS Dvr and the cable card, and it is not letting me rent just the cable card and delete the FIOS dvr. I'll follow up.
As to the Bloomberg programming, I was indeed able to stream free (no pay) Bloomberg Live in beautiful HD onto the family room TV today through a new Roku device (the Ultra). The FIOS Dvr has been replaced by the Roku on the TV's HDMI 1; HDMI 2 has the Tivo Mini (connected to a Tivo Roamio DVR in the basement); HDMI 3 has a rarely used Sony DVD player. I also added a bunch of channels to the Roku. Showtime is now being accessed through Amazon Prime which is connected to the Tivo, as is Netflix and Hulu. The Tivo has a great channel guide which encompasses what is available on the Netflix and Hulu and the Verizon FIOS channels (piped through the Tivo) and outstanding and very easy recording features. With the Tivo minis all around the house the recordings are available everywheren on the various TVs. Plus, the overall monthly bills amount wonderfully to 20% less than the pre-Bloomberg denial era, with continuing triple play on FIOS and now better 150 mb upload download speeds.
Thanks to the Bloomberg denial which rendered the question of what-the-devil, I have judiciously slashed but not burned and rather upgraded the whole experience.
This is a terrible decision. Programming doesn't care what we want, just what they can show management what money they can save the company.
Maybe it is all just political? The exectives or board of Verizon just wants to make Bloomberg suffer and prevent it from being used to report objective news (since most news these days seems to embarrass Trump)? If so, Verizon is preventing freedom of speech / freedom of the press by trying to deny an opposing viewpoint access to the public.
Or its a business decision.
Verizon has stated they were removing the channel because they were charging for content that was being offered for free on the Internet.
Some have stated it is not identical, but may very well be substantialy the same.
Only an idiot would make such a "business decision" when they could clearly make extra money by switching its "plan" to being a premium a la carte channel. If they can impose a "sports" fee on people who don't want there to be any sports programming Verizon can afford to keep the channel at a profit one way or another.Yes, the streaming version of Bloomberg is not at all the same -- the tickers are missing. I once visited a prestige trade school (a high school) where the kids in the finance class had bloomberg TV running all day silently so when they got bored with the teacher having to help slow kids catch up on the stock options & derivatives lessions they could keep learning. There's really no substitute for the progamming nor for the efficient way of communicating multiple threads of news simultaneously.
Fellow Bloomberg TV viewers: My wife and I are in the process of making the switch from Verizon to another service provider in the NYC area that offers real Bloomberg TV on all of its content packages. We also think that we are paying too much for Verizon phone service and will use this opportunity to switch cell phone providers as well.
I am sure many of you are fed-up with these non-answers and are open to making the swtich.
Annoying that the channel guide still shows Bloomberg, just to remind us of what we're missing. I see they stopped advertising that the have Bloomberg, though. Which competitors run the full Bloomberg? Comcast?
So - I now have a tiny little HP computer hooked up to the TV and the internet and it has a bluetooth keyboard with mouse. I can get the Bloomberg TV through the website on Firefox and I added Reuters Business news feed to a feed reader Chrome add-in. Set to one minute updates, the feed on Chrome combo with the Bloom TV looks a lot like the the old Verizon Bloomberg TV. All that is missing is ticker at the bottom, but market indicies come up every six minutes or so on the Bloom TV. The Bloom TV, since it is in a browser, can be resized (I like it small). So I'm getting the serious business news I've been missing and am a happy camper. The only hassle is input switching on the TV (use a different remote, press a button).
To me, Bloomberg TV analogy is to the Wall Street Journal. Serious business news, efficient and incisive, sufficiently critical and newsy, fresh interviewees, compact interviews which do not go on and on tritely. The CNBC interviewees tend to be overexposed and full of uninteresting personal opinion, and some of the interviewers lack gravitas. Fox Business News is almost a joke, a mere mouthpiece for the Trump appointees. Poor Maria B., can't she do better.
So okay Verizon, I'm staying put through the rest of my triple play contract.
And on other TVs, we now have Rokus attached to an independent input, for which we put Bloomberg as the first accessible icon. Lightning fast - one can get to Bloomberg. This is great for after the work day, working out in the basement after work. While CNBC is showing multiple episodes of Shark Tank, we can get the live Asian markets news from Bloomberg and catch up on the day's Bloomberg programming. Switch that to Netflix or Amazon Prime, and can get our Showtime a la carte through Amazon Prime. All fast, all the time. Thanks Verizon, for making me work to figure this out.
It's now 6 months after Verizon dropped Bloomberg TV and FIOS is still showing the Bloomberg channel with all of the current listed Bloomberg content as available on the channel guide channel 604 here. But click on the Bloomberg channel 604 and now despite the advertising of the Bloomberg channel there you just get a blank screen. Any chance they will be updating this channel guide to delete the channel 604 content? The continued showing of the channel as Bloomberg suggests the dropping is temporary, and so I keep clicking on the channel to see if it is back on. I'd like resolution - one way or the other, as well as an accurate program guide. I sure miss the Bloomberg channel with its wonderful news ticker.
This is a disgrace - in fact, I may vote with my feet and go to another carrier. They cut Bloomberg and load up on trashy rerun programs - tlc, etc. Definitely not worth the money without Bloomberg
As of July 10, channel guide still advertising Bloomberg at 604 with all current Bloomberg shows being updated for content. For a little while, when clicking on the channel guide at 604 it showed "Content not available" but now you again just get a blank screen. Annoying, and why does FIOS continue advertising content not being provided to anyone?
