Does FIOS have a sleep timer on the box and remote? I see a post for 18 months ago that requested this. As a brand new customer, I wonder if Verzon has added that feature? Help!!
they have not - you should use the TV sleep timer.
A lot of people wonder, well what about the box. It doesn't really need to be turned off. the box never truly turns off to begin with, it goes in a standby mode, which doesn't have that much less power consumption than when it is powered on and working, so there is no real or meaningful cost benifit to it being turned off.
If you really like the idea of a sleep timer on the FiOS boxes, then don't forget to make it a suggestion at the Idea Exchange,
Thanks for your comment. Time Warner's converter had the feature, so I was wondering and hoping. I wound up going to Best Buy tonight and getting a $9.99 universal remote that enabled me to use th eTV's sleep function. Problem solved!
In my opinion that is not a solution, but a work around/bandaid. Verizon needs to add the feature, which could be done very simply with a firmware update.
Problem is, verizon doesn't care about the existing customers, only getting new ones. Case in point, new subscribers are getting the updated ActionTech Rev G router, existing customers can only get it by upgrading to the unbelievably high priced 100/35 service. To top it off, when I needed my router replaced because the DVR port forward kept getting disabled, they send me a Rev E router, not even the Rev F that I already had.
It's a **bleep** good thing I'm getting more for a lot less money than I did with Time Warner Cable. But it's time to take care of your existing customers, to keep them as customers and purely because it's the right thing to do.
So I wouldn't sit back and say it's ok for you to have to spend $10 extra to get your TV timer to work, because it's not. And also, you need to realize that by using your TV's sleep function, the STB is still turned on and drawing it's max electricity, getting hot, etc. I have reverted to the same solution you did, except I already owned the Harmony One remote when I got FiOS. I have made the request to them for a sleep function, but unless many people request it, it's not going to happen.
