Fios Box upgrade

I have received the message on screen that I need to update my boxes from the old STBs we have.  I have read that the old ActionTec routers, which we still have, don't pair with Fios One.

We have two set top boxes and a DVR box all connected by coax.  I assume that I am going to have to upgrade the router too and I am sure Verizon will charge me for it, right?

Welcome to the forums.  You're talking mostly to other customers here.

First of all, those old Actiontec routers should be removed from service immediately.  They have been out of support for years, which means they haven't gotten any security updates in years.  If you value your internet security, you should replace it as soon as possible regardless of what you do with TV service.

The latest fios ONE set-top boxes require a newer router.  You can use a G1100, G3100, or the latest CR1000A.  Depending on your plan, Verizon may charge you to upgrade.  Given that you're on an ancient router, I'm guessing you're also on an ancient plan without an included router.  Depending on any incentives on your plan, you may find a new plan offers a better set of features and pricing.  Especially if you one a 100Mbps or slower plan.  You'll need to use their online tools or contact them to find out if any options make sense for you.

As far as the router goes, if you can't get one for free on your plan, they will sell you a new one.  I believe it goes for $399 now.  You can pick up used ones online.  If you do that, I suggest the G3100 as the older G1100 will likely go out of support soon, and it too will need to be replaced for security reasons.

Up until 2021, I had a legacy ONT and subscribed to legacy Fios packages. When I upgraded the Internet service, Verizon didn't charge me to upgrade the ONT, router or STBs.

Reading that the router is an Actiontec has me thinking that the ONT is an older unit and that the subscribed packages are legacy.

My suggestion would be to look over Verizon's current offerings and offers, see if any combination looks good and then call Verizon Sales to see if they can make any offers on top of that. 🙂
