how do I turn on the ethernet port of the VMS4100?
I need to use that vs the coax with my router.
thx!
Here some more detail about how a FiOS ONE system is setup with 1Gb Internet:
Verizon ONT:
Coax: Linear TV output (i.e. channels)
Ethernet: WAN internet connection, links to Verizon router WAN port.
Verizon Router:
Ethernet WAN: Internet connection from ONT WAN port
Coax: MoCA LAN root for set-top-boxes and other MoCA devices.
Ethernet LAN: Ports for hardwired LAN devices
WiFi: well, you know, WiFi LAN
VMS4100:
Coax: Linear TV channels from ONT
Coax: MoCA LAN from router for data communication, on-demand, guide, etc.
Ethernet port: Disable, can't be used for anything.
VMS4100 (mini):
Coax: MoCA LAN for streaming TV (from VMS100) data communication, on-demand, guide, etc.
Ethernet: Alternate to MoCA LAN for all services. Must connect to one of the router's LAN ports. Cannot be used for other devices .
WiFi: Another alternate to MoCA LAN for all services. Uses a hidden network on the Verizon router.
You don't. The VMS has to connect to the ONT via Coax to receive live TV. The IPC units can go with Ethernet or wireless.
what's the IPC units? different kind of STB?
I have the 1gb connection and the ONT is connected to the quantum router via ethernet, NOT coax. I've read this can be done, the setting just needs to be changed in the STB to turn on the ethernet jack. Can this be done by end users, or does verizon have to do it?
thanks.
You need coax connected to the VMS and the router. The IPCs can be connected by ethernet or coax.
VMS is the big Fios one box, IPC is the small, or mini Fios one box. The VMS has to have a coax connection, the small one can go ethernet or WI-FI.
