Remote control not working properly

My remote control all of a sudden stopped working properly. It still controls the TV just fine and it also turns off and on the STB, but I can't get the Menu, Info, Guide, DVR, FIOS TV buttons, etc. to work at all. I've already changed the batteries and it still works the same.

I've been having this problem since Wednesday. I have 5 Set Top Boxes, one of which is a DVR. All of them except the DVR are working fine.

The DVR is completely useless. I can't access the Guide, Menu, DVR, nothing. And when I hit the Info button, I get parental control. I also noticed that the time no longer shows up on the LCD panel, only the channel.

When I go online to My Services, I notice the DVR does not show up on my list of Set Top Boxes.

I've gone online to chat with support three times and each time they say they know about the problem and that it will be fixed by either that night, or the next morning. So the next day I call again, because it still hasn't been fixed.

Is there a way I can reset the DVR from my side, maybe that will help!!!

I am having the same issue. my remote control just stopped working with my fios stb. I have changed the batteries as well.s

I'm not sure my issue is the same, but as I posted in another thread I am a new customer and I've been through 2 remotes and 2 STB's and my problems continue. My power and volume buttons work but the arrow keys in particular only work sporadically. Once I am able to enter a menu I have difficulty navigating because the arrow buttons, exit, and ok generally don't work. And since I've had the same issue with 2 remotes and 2 boxes there is clearly a larger issue. Very frustrating to the point I'm considering cancelling my service.

As mentioned in a couple other threads, if your issue is similar to mine, stick a Post It not over the IR sensor on your STB and the remote should work.

I'm having a similar problem. I just activiated 2 new boxes: 1 HD Multi-room DVR and 1 HDSTB. The activiation went thru, even though I had to do the DVR manually, but the remote on the DVR isn't working properly. When you hit the Guide button and scroll thru the channels if you hit OK some of them are coming up saying "Channel Not Available" with a 0881 code. Did the whole online troubleshooting thing, called the CS number, went thru the whole automated thing...still didn't work. So I asked to speak to an agent and went thru the same thing (inplugging from the wall for 20 seconds)...still doesn't work. He thought that it could be because the channels I mentioned that I was getting the 0881 error code are "low level signal" channels but that can't be right because I get those channels IF I use the Channel +/- buttons. He also thought it could be a pinched splitter. I did try the DVR on the TV in the family room and it did the same thing. help!

I'm having the same problem. Very strange - this morning the remote worked fine. Tonight it controls the TV properly, but can't control the STB at all. Replaced the batteries and rebooted the STB, no change.

Having a similar issue. My remote all of a sudden isn't working properly. It works, but intermitently.

Not sure if this means anything but when I hit any button the vol, ch, play button and '5' button stay lit up. Changed the batteries and restarted the DVR box.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Turn off your TV but leave the DVR on. Does the DVR respond?

I have almost the same problem. The new multiroom DVR will suddenly freeze on a channel when I press the remote and it takes maybe up to 10 seconds to respond. Then sometimes it will lose all control over the box. The TV works fine but not response from the DVR. The solution has been so far to unplug the DVR and allow it to reset but this is very annoying. Is there any solution? Thanks

It is a plasma TV problem. Verizon use IR signal. Some plasma TV screen light creating IR interference. In my case. I have a Panasonic Plasma TV. Just change screen model to THX. It fixed problem!!!!!

We are having the same problem our remote. In addition we also have a Panasonic TV. My question is how do I change the screen model to THX? thank you

My remote is suddenly not working. Same problem as the guy in this thread: it operates the TV fine, but I can only change channels on cable. Guide, menu, etc. do not work When I hit "Info" though, a black screen with an old DOS-like interface comes up asking me to set up parental controls.

Thoughts? This is really annoying.

Just swapped my old STB for new ones today and am having the exact same remote control issues on the DVR STB - Guide, Menu, etc. won't work. I can change channels, adjust volume, turn TV on/off, but none of the other controls work.

I tried the black tape over the IR, etc. and it did not work.

Are there any new solutions to this problem?

Just had problem, rebooted modem no help. Rebooted box no help. Went to support online choose problem with box it did reboot still no help. THEN while pondering issue and what to do next set top dvr box rebooted again by itself and I got message that program download occurring will take few moments. After download completed all was good. All returned. So I believe whatever the cause the fix was complete initialized and download by FIOS itself.

Had this problem with my Panasonic TH-50PX60 U. As stated in this and other forums it is a problem between this and other Plasma TV's and some Verizon boxes due ro IR interference. I have solved it twice (2 different boxes) once using 400 speed 35 MM film taped over the cable box display (found that on a forum). Worked fine and when the cable box was replaced with a different one the problem went away. Today I moved that TV to a different location with an older box and the problem returned. Found in this thread that somebody used post it notes. Taped a double layer of yellow post it note over the cable box display and problem solved. Yes you can no longer see the display channel etc., but the new Verizon boxes don't have that anyway.

2 issues....all of a sudden, the channel information bar will not leave the screen when I turn my tv on. I can hit exit and it will go away but unless I do that, it stays on the bottom of the screen the whole time. Also, I used to be able to input a different channel and it would automatically go to that channel, now it doesn't go to that channel unless I hit "ok" after I enter the channel number. Any suggestions how to reset>

If you can go to menu/customer support/top support tools/Fix FIOS TV issues.

Otherwise pull plug, wait 20 seconds, and plug back in.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this issue? I think its a provisioning problem. I have the same exact issue on a new HD box they shipped me (Shockingly self install fail). The remote works fine on other Cable Boxes in my house- something is up with this new box. Channels work- I can flip up and down using the remote but zero response from the other buttons.

No its not the IR - the green IR light blinks on the STB as it receives the signal when I try to do antying like hit the Guide button. Only button that does anything is the Info button which gives me a menu to set the parental controls. (Which I can set then remove fine)

Come on Verizon??

This doesn't work.... if it was as easy as unplugging people would have fixed it 4 years ago

You are talking to PEERS not Verizon. Although I don't see them saying so I am sure the original user fixed this (or left Verizon) long ago.

Normally, as previously said, a reboot of box will fix such problems. Best to do it from Menu, customer support,top support tools, fix Fios Tv issues.

If that doesn't work you will probably have to call Verizon (1-800-Verizon). Most likely they will direct you to do the above again. DON"T argue, say you are doing so, but then tell them it still is having the problem. Most likely the box is bad.

Do you have the same model TV with both TVs?

Try swapping the the box that doesn't work for one that does.

There are some TVs that can interfere with the remote function.

Just because the light comes on doesn't mean it wasn't garbled.

Otherwise, if the same remote works on other STBs, then it is a defective STB (not a systemic problem).

same here, 2 remotes that worked before, not working now. Replaced batteries, no luck. Anyone else?

Does your remote do anything (ie change volume on your TV)?

What model remote do you have?

If it is the 4 button, try hitting the STB button to see if somehow it is trying to control another device.

When you hit buttons on remote, do you see any indications on STB panel?
