SEC Network Part Deux

Since someone marked the previous thread regarding the addition of the SEC Network to Verizon FIOS as "solved", the discussion seems to have dropped off. Some may be quite satisfied with the outcome (especially those in Texas and Florida) that left SEC fans nationwide with only channel 75 in SD. While I am grateful that we are at least getting channel 75, I believe it is important to consistently voice our desire to have an HD channel. 

There have been some developments here in the Southern California (Pomona feed). We now get the alternate channel 332 SD, which we didn't have last week. That's a plus. Whether or not this is true elsewhere is unknown because no one is reporting progress in their areas.

I am not advocating rants and rage as a means to achieving the goal of SECN HD, rather, to keep the issue alive in a persuasive if not creative manner. Back in the day, folks used to chant "I want my MTV".

Well, I, for one "want my SECN HD".

Interestingly enough, I was watching something blurry on SECN SD earlier today that was a documentary of sorts that had all sorts of people from around the country talking about their experiences in the SEC. Whether they were students or atheletes or the children thereof, they went on and on about how great the memories and experiences were. There were some recognizable celebritiy types in the mix. It just reinforces the fact that WE ARE EVERYWHERE.

To paraphrase Field of Dreams (if  you build it they will come}....if you put it on the air (preferably in HD) they will watch.

Keep it alive folks, keep it alive.

SECN alternate channel has been added here in NJ, however they HAVE to add HD in all markets before I will stop contacting them. SEC fans are everywhere..come on Verizon!! Add the SECN in HD to ALL markets!

332 is on in VA too. Not knowing anything specific about Verizon's plans, I feel like SEC Net will be added in HD. Exactly when is anyone's guess. I can see why they launched it like they did because it was such a "rush" job. Adds like this are usually planned, then take a couple weeks to launch for the entire FiOS footprint. The two VHO's where HD channels were added took priority since they are within the SEC footprint. They also likely placed the HD channels there as "regional" networks just like Sun Sports and Fox Sports. For the rest of us, I think Verizon will plan and roll out the HD channel or channels over a couple weeks after they provision the space just like any other recent add. It would be nice if they would ever tell us when this will happen, but I think they shy away from that because things can go wrong and get delayed.

I daresay there is a lot of insight on your part. It does take time for something like this to be implemented and you may be right about the eventual arrival of SECN HD nationwide. It took awhile once the Verizon/Netflix "deal" was made for me to start seeing consistent high quality streaming. It would be interesting if someone in Texas or Florida could confirm whether or not they are getting "regional" networks in the vogue of Sun Sports or Fox (Verizon could consider offering their regionals on the Left Coast  in HD as well....hint, hint). My understanding is that those who get SECN in HD are getting it on channel 575, which doesn't even exist in my guided. But neither did 75 or 322. They were added into the mix as I surmise 575 will be. 

Verizon has been busy out here lately moving a lot of channels from their east coast feed to a paciffic feed. In some ways this is good, in others, it complicates scheduling DVR recordings because some shows that were on at different times are now all on at the same time. Maybe a twelve tuner whole house Quantum Fios system will solve the problem? It's challenging enough with a six tuner TiVo. Maybe there is a method to the madness after all?

On another note, and at the risk of sounding dumb, I can understand Florida being in the SEC "footprint" (a word I use like everyone else without completely understanding just what it means), but ....Texas? I lived there for awhile and enjoyed my stay (except for the Cedar Fever), but I don't recall any teams being in the SEC. Texas is part of the Big 12 or Big 10 or whatever now.  Maybe, it's because Texas A & M moved to the SEC? Can anyone explain this one?

Well, I'm off to stare at channel 75 for a few hours. I have to keep reminding myself that it's not my eyes that are blurry. Wait, it's Friday night, maybe my eyes are blurry.....

Interesting fact to post for anyone at Verizon with the power and inclination to expedite SECN HD nationwide.  ESPN reports today that seven of the top fifteen teams are from the SEC. Fortunately, I was able to watch the Georgia/South Carolina game in CBS (in HD of course). These kinds of games are only going to get more frequent and exciting as we drill into the SEC conference match ups. Fortunately, some of them will be carriied in HD by other networks.

As a side note, how does South Carolina beat Georgia and end up ranked a notch below? Bring back the computers!!!! (just kidding).

Little birdie told me that the SEC is coming in HD for everybody this week or next. Guess we'll see if I can trust this little birdie or will need to feed him to my cat. 🙂

Yes, Texas is an SEC state now since A & M was added to the conference about three years ago. That makes them part of the "footprint".

Of all the channels carrying college football Saturday that I was watching the SEC Network was the only one not in HD. It would certainly be nice to have it in HD also.

I know the satellite providers,DISH and DTV, have to make room for space for HD channels. They take up a lot of bandwidth. I don't know if its the same or not for Verizon but I suspect its similar. They probably have to juggle some things around to make that space. One day all channels will be in HD and this point will be mute. But until that time we will just have to wait and keep the squeaky wheel squeaking.

Thanks for explaining the A & M/SEC/footprint thing. Somewhere in a dusty extremely underused crevice of my brain I probably suspected this might be the case. Dang, those Texans will do whatever it takes to get SECN in HD.....:;-) Especially after having to watch Longhorn TV.....and I say this with great affection because I lived in Austin,still have family there and went to UT until the Football Gods summoned me to Auburn.

Verizon has been converting a lot of channels to pacific feed out here and adding new "multinational" channels.  They've been quite busy expanding the list of channels that probably require additional subscriptions. Folks from Israel, Kuwait, Italy, Burma, China and the far flung Islets of Langerhans now have HD programming. So, surely SECN HD is not far behind.

If Pac-12 fans were as squeaky I suspect their network would be on Verizon.

Verizon Fios official twitter feed posted that "We heard you loud and HD clear. Big news is on the way for SEC fans. Stay tuned!"

This was earlier today, so hopefully they will announce HD for ALL markets soon!!

I hope every one is happy since I'm pretty sure we all can expect an RSN fee increase very soon to cover additonal SEC channel and CBS Sports Network HD costs.

The RSN fee may go up for those in FL and TX because SECN is considered "regional" there, and comes at a higher cost- reportedly over a dollar per sub. For the rest of us, I've heard that it's about 25 cents, and that will be included in the bundle cost for the Extreme HD and Ultimate HD packages.

My SECN HD has been up and running since yesterday but this is the first chance I've had to post any feedback. I just want to offer a sincere and hearty thank you to Verizon for responding to the outcries of the SEC Nation and for making this happen. I also want to give a hearty shout out to "all ya'll"..... the rabid SEC fans who persisted and insisted on making this a reality.

I would now consider this thread oficially "solved!
